Ladies shirts

So ladies, what is your opinion on having flashy shirts instead of the traditional calico patterns normaly worn.

I actually think the flashy shirts made out of satin or other different material looks nice with the raised beadwork. Since smoke dance and Iroquois dancers are still primarily new to contest powwows and pow wows in general, I see it as a sign of the times for the smoke dancers or ones who dance traditional in iroquois regalia. Now, i'm not talking about wearing a neon orange shirt to the longhouse, only to a powwow.!!!

i have always loved calico, in general, when ever I make any cloth regalia, however just last week I finished a grass dance regalia for my friends son out of satin (as per his request) & it did look beautiful & so I have changed my mind, I do like the satin's, i think you'll look terrific but I also still love calico!

Well the reason they used calico is because the overdress style was started in the victorian period and I believe many of the nations' treaties included so much calico and or muslin. Why not not spruce it up today?

You're right, it's probably too flashy for longhouse but for powwows, and the like the only reason I can see why not is because of the heat LOL!
