Am I Like a River or a Pond?

Posted by:
Patient Frog

Do I move in a direction that I am destined to move; always in the same direction, sometimes still, but when moving, either slowly or quickly, it is always down stream, like the river, in a direction I am destined to move?

Or do my waters move with the wind, being pushed in whatever direction the wind is taking me? Sometimes it may be a gentle breeze, other times it is a violent storm, either way, it is a direction toward a particular bank, not necessarily one of my choosing and that too can change with the direction of an opposing wind? Am I like the water in the pond?

Which one do I want to be like? One with a direction that is known and moving forever onward, or one that has no direction but is self-contained, like the pond, not really moving anywhere in particular.

I believe that up to this point, I have been living my life much like that of a self-contained pond, going with the winds of life in no particular direction. I desire to be connected to the river of life that has a purpose and a direction that I am to seek and follow, even though I have no clue what my purpose or direction is all about. I would much rather have a direction and a purpose driving me in one direction, than twisting in the wind, touching every bank without knowing why.
I am choosing to dig! I am digging a canal to reach the river. I don't know how long it will take, but I know the river is not far. I can hear its rushing waters calling to me. I don't know how to dig a canal either, but I am willing to learn and I am willing to put in the hard work. I am going to find my direction and purpose and my freedom will follow!
