Pork 'n Beans

Bush's Baked Beans have some new interesting flavors out for their Grilled Beans.

My favorite is B&M beans cuz they're small, don't fall apart, and have a nice BBQ flavor.

But we're always stuck with Van Camp's Pork 'n Beans or commodity vegetarian beans. They're not bad, but need some pick me up.

I always add ketchup, mustard, and brown sugar. Sometimes BBQ sauce, especially if that's all I have.

Got any favorite pick me up's for canned beans.

BBQ sauce especially a sweet variety works good... my wife has a recipe with four or five different kinds of beans, brown sugar, molasses, bbq, ground beef, and some other stuff... Hoo boy it's a meal in itself!!!

Mmmm, beans! Little bit of onion is good if you're cooking 'em.

Dried Meat

I was told last week I'm diabetic. They got me on pills, counting carbs and checking my own sugar . Counting carbs is a pain. What I'm wondering is for snacks do some dried meat and use that with cheese for snacks.

How you dry meat ? I got some to cook, but I don't want to ruin it trying to figure out how to dry it and keep it. Or would the dried meat and cheese in moderation throw my carb count off. I can do 250 a day and right now I figure I'm doing about 60 a meal which gives me 180 a day, leaving me 70 for snacks.

not sure if this has anything to do with pork and beans but ya can go old school .... and build a tripod from wood ... and tie other pieces of wood across the openings in the tripod. place that over a fire ... and place your thinly sliced meat on the it and let it dry. it takes a while ... so ya (i remember doing this wit deer meat ayez when i was small ... LOL)

my nephew made some in the oven one time ... not sure how long he put it in there for but it was like at a real low oven temperature. jus placed thinly sliced meat on a baking sheet

and my mom used her dehydrator once to make dried meat ....

the tonk bars are said to be good i will look for the thread on them.

and drying meat out, side a smokey fire will be good to keep the flys way or you might need a fly waver lol [i did that once but we were cooking a whole pig in grease little pice by pice]
i dont know what wood would be better, a soft wood or a hard wood.

You never heard of dried meat and pork and beans for breakfast. Put some BBQ and Hot Sauce in the P&B "s and on the dried meat. A friend had some dried meat once he shared with me but they moved before I could find out how to dry meat.
