Sure you can just put any hot-brewed coffee in the fridge and make your iced coffee....but the true way to make it is to cold brew it .....and it's EASY, requires no special pot or even electricity.

The cold brew method doesn't leach the acids out of the coffee so it will be easier on the stomach and not so bitter.

Mix 1 cup dark medium ground coffee (or coffee/chicory mix) with 1/4 cup water to wet the grounds. Add 2 cups water and let sit overnight (12 hours). Strain through a gold screen filter or twice - once through a medium filter, then through a finer filter.

Now you have cold brew concentrate to make iced coffee, or even add hot water to make an acid free coffee, and it will keep in the fridge for 2-3 weeks.

To make Iced Coffee:

Add ice to a glass.
Pour in 1/4 cup coffee concentrate.
Add 3/4 - 1 cup milk.
Stir.

To Make a Latte:

Warm 3/4 - 1 cup milk.
Add 1/4 cup concentrate.
Stir.

To Make Hot Coffee:

Heat 2/3 cup water.
Add 1/3 cup concentrate.

You may have to adjust the proportions according to taste, type of coffee used, and grind.

And of course, sweeten as desired.

If you have a Toddy coffee maker, this is perfect!

I can't wait to make it in my broken coffee maker. I knew I saved it for a reason. And I think I'll do this when camped this summer too!

Thanks for sharing this, Rose. I am an iced coffee addict and always just brewed some in my coffee pot and when it cooled, added some Amaretto creamer and put it in a container and popped it in the fridge. Next batch I make, I'm trying it your way.

yep i thougt of you to day as i plunkes down my
2.50 with tip for a cup of ice coffie while i was out driving today,i wonder if i could change some of my coffie habits to make it to go ,a couple of filters and a can of good coffie .

do you think a instant coffie would work too.

Instant coffee works great for iced coffee. Don't worry about doing the cold brew method with it.

I have an emergency jar of Sanka for just those occasions!

And remember, don't throw out any coffee. Just fill up an ice cube tray. Transfer them to a zip lock baggie when froze so you can make more. Then you don't dilute your iced coffee!!

It's probably a good idea to keep a tray just for coffee cuz it does stain!

hello, i try it yesterday ,the ice coffie i didnot like it as much as cold brew from coffie shop ,i may do the ice tray this summer and see if there a improvement.i like my hot coffie almost like 'thick as mud' as my mom says.
so some trial and error as i pull away from expensive baresta coffie

hi again well i didnot like it becouse is was too watery i need to think about how to get the strong tast i like of coffie with cream in a cold bervege my one try at it was not good so i will try again and keep you posted about me progress an the coffie ppl feel for me lol last time i was there she id want to change me tax lol i tol her go a head i ok lol and way it not a freequent spot any more sence in not driving taxi anymore

Being a southern boy, I'm more about iced tea than iced coffee, BUT you can also make a dessert iced coffee that is very good. I doubt if many kids would like it, but coffee-lovin' adults do.

Proportions depend on how much you want to make and personal taste, so I leave that up to y'all.

1. Make a batch of STRONG coffee. A lot stronger than you drink it, freezing it will dilute the taste. When you think you've put in enough coffee to make it too strong, add a little bit more.

2. Let coffee cool. Then poor into a pan (or ice trays), cover with plastic wrap and freeze for about 2 hours.

3. Pull back plastic wrap and use a fork to break up the freezing coffee, until it is about the consistency of a slushy. Put the plastic wrap back on and freeze for another 30 minutes or so.

4. Take off the plastic wrap and break up the coffee again, being sure to break up any big chunks.

5. Spoon into a glass or bowl and top with whipped cream (or whatever else you'd like), but you want the topping pretty sweet. Serve with a spoon.

6. You can also sweeten the coffee before freezing, but then you should break up the mixture 3 times, because the sweetener will settle to the bottom of the ice: After 1 hour in the freezer. After the second hour in the freezer. And then after the final 1/2 hour in the freezer.

Of course, if you sweeten the coffee before you freeze it, then the topping doesn't need to be as sweet. But that is a matter of personal taste. It is a very refreshing dessert on a hot day.
