Look in the T's on the Recipe Index to find one that I posted. Recipe Index It's made with ground pork, even though most of the tortilla soup that I've eaten has been made with chicken.
I heard tortilla soup is traditionally made "at the end of the month" when you don't have much more to cook (even chicken). And soup is pretty hard to mess up. Basically start with some chicken broth and cooked chicken (or if you have time, boil some chicken in salted water wtih celery leaves, carrot tops and some onion. Strain, debone chicken, and put back in pot.) Dice some onion, green and/or hot chilis, and canned tomatoes - add to broth and chicken. Bring to a simmer. Season it well. aAdd salt (if your broth isn't already salty enough), chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, black pepper, paprika, whatever you have on hand. Meanwhile, cut some tortillas into 1/4 inch strips and fry in some oil. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with seasoned salt. I like to serve with some tortilla strips on the bottom of the bowl, then fill with soup. Top with shredded cheese, minced cilantro leaves and more tortilla strips. Some people serve avocado wedges. These are the basics and you can experiment and come up with your own famous recipe.

I always thought tortilla soup was a can of chicken & rice or chicken noodle soup. Heat up the tortilla on the stove, cut it up in little pieces in ur hand and throw it into ur bowl of soup!
![]() j/k. I've eaten it in restaunts and my way at home.

That sounds like a good recipe for my "Can-opener Cook" section, along with most of my commod recipes.Actually the first tortilla soup I ever had was at a very upscale restaurant. Just the broth was to DIE FOR!! And I think it had cilantro and other ingredients too.
