Stained glass cookies

The most beautiful cookies I have ever seen.

Basic Sugar Cookie Dough (even store bought)
Lifesavers or lollipops

Crush the different colors of lifesavers or Lollipops separately. You don't want to make powder, but the pieces shouldn't be over 1/4".

Roll out your chilled dough between 1/8 and 1/4 inch, and use cookie cutters to cut various shapes. Bells, circles, stars, trees...are all good. Now you want to cut out some windows in your shapes. The windows shouldn't be TOO big. Use a knife or SMALL cookie cutters to cut these out.

Cover your baking sheet with foil. Spray with non-stick spray. Lay the cookie shapes on the pan and using a small spoon, fill the windows with different colors of the crushed candy.

Bake as directed, whatever kind of dough you're using. Remove foil and cookies carefully and let cool before attempting to peel the cookies off the foil.

I made these last year and used all different types of candy. My stained glass didn't look so stained b/c I included solid white hard candies too. Still, they were pretty and fun to make! If you try to eat them, the candy gets really crumbly. yummmmmm

Oh yeah, I baked these a couple of different ways. First I tried foil, then parchment paper, then just on the pan. The best results came from the parchment paper. The cookies did not overcook. when I cooked them on foil, the candy turned out fine, but the cookie was too dark. Baked on the pan, the candy burned.

parchment paper is a baking must. Once you bake brownies or cookies with it, you'll never want to bake without it again!

if you cut your parchment to fit your pan and it rolls up on you, just use some softened butter along the edges to hold the paper flat
