The ultimate Thanksgiving Dinner
ahhhh, let's build the best dinner - I'll brine a Hutterite turkey. Add your favorite stuffings, side dishes and desserts!
p.s. if you don't know the recipe for your favorite food, I'll find it and post it! I'll even test drive Last edited by butter bean; 11-09-2007 at 05:09 PM. |

Well, I don't know about having tofurkey, but a brined Hutterite bird sounds deelish!! My mom's dish is a sweet potato casserole but she always switches it up. Last year she found a recipe with orange juice, which would be good at Easter or some other time, but I want the traditional for Thanksgiving.
When she seves the one with the nut/brown sugar topping, that's the best!!

Gotta have Cranberry Fluff** alongside that Hutterite bird or it isn't thanksgiving!
**Think ambrosia but with minced cranberries, grapes, pieces of apple and mini-marshmallows. I posted the recipe a year or two ago - but I'll go dig it out sometime this week

I found an intersting brine recipe that I may alter. It includes sea salt, onions, capers, lemon juice, and bay leaves. |

![]() My mom has used both Walnuts and Pecans (separately) but I'll tell her about the cashews. She's always has her eye out for a change up. Your brine sounds deelish! I'll make the pumpkin pies, cuz I'm very picky. I like a dense pumpkin with lots of spices: heavy on the cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg, but light on the cloves. And real evaporated milk and a flaky homemade crust. The recipe is here somewhere.

I was going to make a pumpkin cheesecake, but think I'll stick to pumpkin pies. I have a great pumpkin cheesecake recipe with pecan, shortbread crust and sour cream topping. As good as that sounds, nothing beats a pie with flaky crust. You have to make it yourself get it truly flaky. I think the store brands are tough and too thin. They do work in a pinch though |

I make the worst dough crusts.... I've even had people stand next to me telling me what to do and it still turns out horrible. I tend to stick to the graham cracker or cookie and nut crumb crusts.
What I need is a good pumpkin pie recipe that doesn't use eggs, allspice, nutmeg or cloves (food allergies).... I like the consistency of a "sweet tater" pie the best tho. Maybe I'll experiment this year!
