Whole wheat frybread - best ever!!!

I can't believe it actually worked, but the family wanted whole wheat frybread, bought the stuff, and had me make it.

It turned out GREAT!!! Best frybread I've made in a few years.

Pour in 1/2 bag of whole wheat flour into a LARGE bowl. Add a couple cups of white flour. Mix in 2 pk of yeast (Yes, I make Northern!! ), 1/4 cup sugar, 1 T. salt, and 3 T. baking powder. Add a pitcher (1/2 gal) of very warm water (like HOT bath water), and mix until all the lumps are gone. I usually use a whisk for this. Mix in more flour (with a stiff spoon) 2 cups at a time (alternating wheat and white) until the dough is no longer sticky. Cover and let set for an hour or two.

This dough was so easy to work with that I took softball size chunks and made 12 inch (pan size) fry breads. Everyone was blown away!! Myself included!

They made delishish NDN tacos that you could fold in half and actually eat. And SO GOOD with honey butter! Gonna eat the leftovers tonight!

I've tried making this before, and I was disappointed, so I will use your recipe. So when you say half a bag, do you mean a 5lb bag or a 25 lb bag??? HAHA, it will make a big difference, but I will try your recipe after you are more clear on amounts. WW

Sorry! It's half a 5 pound bag, but it would probably work with any size.

And a little t is teaspoon, and the capital T is Tablespoon.

Hope it turns out for you Lakota Winyan, or I'll come over and make it for you myself!
