Wyo- got any good candy recipes???

I'm giving FOOD for Christmas gifts this year. I was looking throught the Harry & David catalog and thought all their baskets were way over priced - or at least the cookies and candies.

If anyone has any tried and true recipes for truffles, hard candies, fudge, cookies...please share. I'll try to send out sampler baskets to everyone (time permitting)

Decorating the inside of the house tonight, tree gets bought tomorrow (but we always put it in a big bucket of water on the porch for 24 hours so it won't be coming inside until Monday).... I'll get some of the family favorites together tomorrow evening. Gotta make a shopping list for myself anyway!

Oh Thanks Patrick. I was going to ask you for variations for folks with allergies. I'm building a ginger bread house this afternoon. I baked all the parts last night.

I haven't made candy FOREVER!! But I just bought me a candy thermometer over the weekend and am going to try some out.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Here's the link for a recipe from Top Secret Recipes for Kona Glazed Macadamia Nuts. Sounds good and their recipes are always good.

http://www.topsecretrecipes.com/reci...mmentList=true

And the recipe will only be listed 'free' until next Monday, but you can always print it out.

And almost a week later, here I is. Ride for getting the tree fell apart and no alternatives are in the offing - but the house is decorated, the outside lights are up and we need to get our baking done. So while I go through making my grocery list, I'll post the family favorites!

You know, I hardly EVER make candy - fighting the Battle of the Bulge, you know.

BUT...I did make some low carb Reese's last week. I took 1/2 cup of peanut butter and mixed in 4 packets of Splenda and shaped little patties. Then I barely melted an Atkins chocolate bar (wish Hershey's still made their 1 carb chocolate bars) and dipped in the little patties in the melted chocolate and froze them a little while.

I was hoping for some cupcake paper cups so I could spread the melted chocolate in the bottom (then freeze) then put in the peanut butter and top with more melted chocolate.

What kind of peanut butter did you use? Did you blend your own or are you using the sugary peanut butter (jiff - yummm)

Hershy's had the best lo-carb candy. It didn't have that waxy taste. Some of those lo-carb chocs melt funny too, really oily.

I used Jif - the best! But if my blender wasn't broke, I would have tried to make my own.

Yep, you really got to watch out for some of those sugar free chocolates. If they say "malitol", I say "mal" .... bad. They tear me up.

I complained to the Hershey's people about not making their 1 carb chocolates any more but all they did was send me $6.00 in coupons.

Back to candy making...I heard making mints is quick and easy. And SO GOOD!!
