Holiday favorites and recipes

I got a magazine today and it had holiday photos so I'm all in the mood now for Christmas. All the pretty candles and all. Then it got me to thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas and all the happy memories. (didn't want to dwell on the sad ones.. i've done that for too long ;) )
Anyway... thought we could share stories of holidays past and what our favorites are and share some recipes!

Here is a really simple mint one!

Candy Mints Recipe

1 lb Powdered sugar
1/2 c Butter
2 tb Evaporated milk
4 dr Peppermint flavoring
2 dr Or more green food coloring

Combine all ingredients in bowl and beat at high speed until well blended. Knead until smooth. Shape mints in candy molds. Then place on cookie sheets which have been covered with paper towels. Cover with paper towels. Leave overnight to set. Makes 9 Dozen.

Any that is your favorite over the holidays or ones the family and friends keep bugging you to make. Any you remember that you loved growing up. The old tried and true. Anything you feel like sharing.;) :7:

I also thought those that are not very skilled in the culinary department could share some of their holiday favorites and we might be able to help them find a recipe also the ones that have a long lost recipe. I know their are some here that have old family cookbooks.

MMM MMM MMM Its cookin time again... My youngest son is gong to be a chef... and he knows that I love anything pumpkin... so the other night he makes me some pumpkin soup....I had never had it before... It was the best tasting soup I have ever had.. here is the recipe..

onion
2 tbls butter
clove of garlic
can of chicken broth
salt and pepper to taste

mix the onion, butter, garlic, and chicken broth in a pan let simmer after boil for 15 min.

1 can solid pumpkin ( or real pumpkin)
one can of evaporated milk
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tbls of brown sugar

mix pumpkin and other ingredients together in a bowl..

take bowl ingredients and mix with simmering liquid ingredients.

stir until smooth .. do not boil simmer only....
you want to serve the soup warm not hot..

wonderful smell and taste.. something different to do with
pumpkin

I've never cooked a full dinner like that before so I don't have any recipes to share but maybe one of these years I will after reading all of your recipes!! :Chatter

Does anyone have a good popcorn ball one? My mother-in-law always made tons of em to give all the kids and grand kids. They were the highlight of the season. We'd much till New Year's. :7: She had her own recipe that called for white corn syrup, sugar, creme of tartar and vinegar. Unfortunately the recipe passed with her in '92. :( :Cry

Yes Mato my daughter has mine I will have her bring it or email it to me an I will send it to you . My kids fight over them yet an so do the grand kids . We also put pecans in them sometimes an dad loved the ones with walnuts .

Make sure you have a candy temperature thingy because the ball on the corn syrup is the key to the ball. This meaning for those that dont know is when the corn syrup is dropped in water it makes a little ball like a pea that means the syrup is ready if you dont have one of these candy thingies...
