Exclamation Prominent Native American Boxer Fighting at the Reno Events Center

Joey Gilbert Promotions Brings Championship Boxing to Reno, Nevada
Prominent Native American Boxer Fighting on the Card

(Reno, Nevada – March 31, 2007) – After a successful first boxing production in Lake Tahoe, Joey Gilbert Promotions will be bringing its second professional boxing event to Joey Gilbert's hometown of Reno, NV. The "Reno After Dark"--Championship Boxing event will be held at the Reno Events Center on Saturday, May 12th, with doors opening at 6 PM and the first bout starting at 7 PM.

Gilbert, a TV star from the reality show "The Contender" and WBO-NABO Middleweight Champion, will be headlining the event at 9pm against an opponent to be named shortly. This will be his third title defense, but his first bout in his hometown since his college glory days, and an important step in his quest to become world champion. Gilbert's second successful title defense resulted in a 12-round unanimous decision against undefeated Michi Munoz (17-1, 12 KOs) in Lake Tahoe on March 2nd.

As a world-ranked professional fighter, Gilbert is currently the World Boxing Organization's (NABO) Middleweight Champion and ranked #6 by the WBO with a record of 14-1, with 10 knockouts. Prior to his professional career, Gilbert was a collegiate fighter at the University of Nevada where he was a three-time National Champion, a four-time Regional Champion, a four-time All American, and Nevada State Golden Gloves Super Middleweight Champion.

Also fighting on the card will be prominent Native American boxer, Derek Hinkey. Hinkey will be fighting out of Reno, Nevada by way of McDermitt. Hinkey made his pro debut on March 2, 2007 in the Snow Brawl at the MontBleu Casino in Stateline, Nevada where he scored an impressive first round TKO over Patrick Sierra. Derek Hinkey recently signed a long-term promotional contract with Mills Lane’s Let’s Get It On Promotions. Hinkey is a proud Native American (Paiute and Shoshone) from McDermitt, Nevada and has been active in competitive boxing since the age of six. As a top-ranked 165lb. amateur fighter, Hinkey fought over 130 bouts, including national/international tournaments and an unsuccessful bid at the Olympic Trials. "We are extremely excited about the talent, drive, and character that Derek possesses," says Let's Get It On Promotions' Terrance Lane. "We are very proud to bring Derek into the Let's Get It On family."

Hinkey will fight at Super-Middleweight (165lbs). "I'm ready to Get It On!” says Hinkey. "I am extremely excited to represent my family and my Native people in the ring." Derek is not the only boxer in his family. His younger brother Tyler, a heavyweight, also has proven himself in the ring. Derek and Tyler were the first Native American brothers to enter the Olympic trials. To learn more about Derek Hinkey visit www.letsgetitonboxing.com.

The undercard will also feature other local talent and rising stars determined to scrap their way to prominence in the ring.
