The art is excellent in many cases but it is not fine art. Most of it is poster art. Fine art is fine art when it is done on canvas with oil or acrylic. As a mural either with paint mosaicetc... Much of the work I have seen can be considered fine art if it is taken to a 2nd level. It does , however clasify as art. Norman Rockwell was a superb commercial artist most of his work is art and some was fine art. If you read some of my comments on the works you'll see that I'm trying to be as generous with my vote as passible. I.ll never give a perfect score. This my spoil the artistic flair. I'm harder on myself.
congrats for the turnout. many have great promise. The others are great.
Keep up the good work.

Actually from what I learned in Art Appreciation was that fine are is defined by it's lack of function and is only for asthetic purposes.

fine art???

Boozhoo niji,

I took an art history course in college, and to me, fine art is something done by professional or amatuer artists, and is not limited to oils, or functionless designs, but at the same time, each piece should be a one off. Fine art includes any kind of drawing medium, painting, sculpting, and in some cases theater. Some may even consider the dancing what we do as fine art, because each dance outfit is a one off as is the dancing we do.

There are pieces of pottery that can be considered as fine art, and yet they are functional, and what about that beautiful flute that is carved out and loving decorated? Not only is the instrument itself an example of fine art, but the music that can be played through it could be considered as fine art. I do believe that the symphonies of the great composers (cant spell any of their names except for Mozart) is also considered as fine art.

Thjat is only part of it. What about the every day. We would know less about the past were it not for art. Art was the basis of hiroglyphics untill it graduated to sanscript. It was also the basis for story and historical transcription on hides, cave dwellings. Lascot. What about the Aztec and Mayan gryphs. Ancient India,Tibet, China, etc...Art is no only ethetic. It can be religionus Iconic, supestition, political (as in mockery of official). I do however see it as ethetic if it is a mural or paiting that just fills a space on a wall. No matter that you prof may have had a degree in art or (art appr) he/she is not artist enough to understand the true nature of art in its pictorial aspect.
This would be like saying that a song is only to be please the ear. You know as well as I that it was used as a political statment not only during the 70"s but during the dark ages as we know them. Is dancing at a powwow only to kick up some dust? Hello. The coffee's perking. Take a deep breath.
