PowWows.com Holiday Charity Fundraiser

Each year during the holidays you, the members of PowWows.com, help raise money for a charity. This year's charity is a great cause!

This past August I heard about a project started by Kenny Merrick Jr. to purchase dialysis machines for the Spirit Lake Reservation. Due to the remote nature of the area, diabetics are typically forced to drive about 200 miles round trip in order to obtain the use of dialysis machines. Rather than make the trip, too many patients simply give up and succumb to the disease.

Kenny started Spirit Lake Inc. in 2003 in loving memory of his father Kenny Merrick Senior. This 501c3 organization works to raise awareness and money for the effort.

Kenny Merrick Jr's label, Red Bear Productions, produces recording and performances. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of their cd's go towards the purchase of dialysis machines.

Over the next 2 months, PowWows.com will be helping to raise money for this project. You'll see many ways on the site to contribute!

We hope that everyone will help contribute to this worthy cause.

Good Job Kenny! I am very happy to see you doing this for the elders. However, I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your father, I had no idea that he had passed on. Your dad is in a better place now at least he won't be suffering anymore. May the Great Creator watch over you and your family. Take Care! and keep up the good work.

I gave...donated 15.00 out of the last 19.59 that was in mah bank lol well im only happy when im broke...Its not fair when u gotta travel to get medical stuff done. I dontated because of my brother who has to get dialysis twice a week and has to travel the 30 minit there and back ride(and that time that my mom loses off of work to drive) But its better than it was b4 which was an hour and a half drive there and back, not including the 4-5 hours on the machine. Okay im done :o)

An idea to those who cannot afford to donate a lot - i just donated a little through paypal and i will continue with every paycheck for as long as this charity fundraiser runs. A little here and there is a lot easier than a lot at once. I encourage others to do the same if donating a lot of money is hard. Every dollar helps, ya know.

If you are not able to give, spread the word about this effort!

Tell others about the fund raiser and about the problems with diabetes.

I was hoping to find some information about it on this I was told by my dr 3 years ago and other times before that I was diabetic. Is there any good sites on this?
