Ok, so some of you have seen it, and now wonder what it is.

First let me say that if someone has a better name for it than Karma, please let me know!!

Well, here it is!

Karma points are assigned to users in a variety of ways.

Here is the breakdown:

If you start a thread and it recieves replies you will be given points as follows:

Replies Points
5 20
25 50
50 100
100 200
200 500

If you start a thread and it recieves views you will be given points as follows:

Views Points
50 10
200 25
500 50
1000 100
2000 200

I know you probably need a calculator for all this, but, it is just for fun!

The user with the most Karma Points on March 31 will recieve a PowWows.com shirt.

Are you and the moderators exempt from this or is it everyone included? (I noticed everyone has karma now.)

Everyone, including Moderators and myself are in the Karma point system.

I think it's a big annoying waste of time. Is this supposed to be a popularity contest or posting competition here, or a discussion board? :Eyebrows
Silly bells and whistles are not what makes a good site. Bad webmaster, bad!

I agree and I try not to add a bunch of bells and whistles.

fun, sure. And of course no one around here will abuse something like this, will they?

Also, I noticed that you can't access some peoples' karma points to add or subtract. What's up with that? run it up as high as you want and then lock everyone else out? yeah, great system.

You should be able to access everyone's points. Nobody is locked out!

And is someone does abuse it, it's just for fun!

I'm not sure why you felt it necessary to respond to me by PM rather than here on the board so that everyone can understand the point of this new thing. I am also not certain if I'm supposed to feel somehow chastised by your reference to the chatroom and your "see everyone has an opinion" remark. Yes, we do, that's why I was posting mine. I was under the impression you'd asked us what we thought. And while it is true that some people may consider the chatroom an unnecessary bell or whistle, they have the option of simply not using it, and no one is penalized for using it or not using it. But apparently, judging by my immediate loss of karma points after responding to your post, we will now be sanctioned for stating our opinions on this site (rather than just contending with opposing opinions, which people are supposedly also free to post). Just one more way I guess to ensure uniformity of opinion around here. What'sa matter, deleting posts and locking threads just too obvious? Now we're going to use a peer-pressure based point system around here? Pretty lame.

First I sent you the PM, just so we could continue the conversation, sorry about that!

Second, I didn't subtract any points from you, I actually added some to you for expressing the opinion!

I am not trying to create a system that will sanction users for thier opinions.

So I'm now going to turn off the ability for people to give Karma points to each other.

You will only recieve points for your posts/replies and how many views and replies you get.
