Tulsa Pow Wow
Over the weekend we attended the Tulsa Pow Wow, it was pretty good. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza downtown, it was nice, but a bit too fancy for my taste, more like Motel 6, for me. We had family in Tulsa, and from out of State, Michigan, who came in to see the Pow Wow. We bought alot of vender stuff, probably too much, and we have alot of video of the highlights, the fancy feathers, both men's and women's, as well as the jingles, and the fancy shawl dancers. It was the first time I had ever seen women do the fancy feather dance. It was quite good. All of the dancers were excellent, we had our favorites, but we had to leave before we saw any contest results, and are waiting for them to post the results on their website. If I had any complaint, I wish I had a table so I could have sat down to eat my bean soup and fry bread, excellent. They had the rodeo going at the same time, down the hall, as they always do, and the whole place was filled with nothing but cowboys and Indians, the Indians were out numbered, of course. My daughter's boyfriend took some ribbing about being there to see the rodeo and not the Pow Wow, he said he was ducking back and forth. All in all, a pretty good Pow Wow, and it was good to see so many good dancers, and good to see family.

Well, thanks, RDNKJ. Tulsa may end up being one that we always go to. Next stop may be the Cherokee National Holiday in Talequah, of maybe the Ottowa Pow Wow in Miami, Ok., we really haven't decided yet. They are both on the same weekend, so we have to pick one. I have never attended the Cherokee event, even though I used to live at Lake Tenkiller. We attended the Ottowa Pow Wow last year, it was great for a little Pow Wow, lots of dancers, and no trouble parking. We enjoyed the Casino there too, since I won some money, enough to buy dinner, and a tank of gas. |

Hey there, gtbdave...have you posted any of your videos anywhere? Would love to see, esp. the women's fancy feather. Thanks.
