NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A barge struck a cruise ship Saturday on the Mississippi River, leaving a nine-metre gash on the ship and forcing the cancellation of a five-day cruise to the Caribbean.
There were no injuries reported on Carnival Cruise Lines' Fantasy ship or the barge, authorities and company officials said.
The barge collided with the river bank, then struck the port side of the cruise ship as it waited to dock, said a statement from the cruise line.
There was minor damage to the barge, which was one of six rice barges being pushed by the towing vessel Repentance.
Carnival said the 2,050 passengers who had been allowed to board were later told their cruise had been cancelled because repairs would take several days. The cruise line said they would receive a refund and a discount on a future cruise.
Fantasy is scheduled to set sail on its next scheduled cruise Thursday, said Carnival spokesman Tim Gallagher.

i was so looking forward to cruising the high seas but things happen they way they are supposed to happen...it could of been worse... we could of been out at sea...we got to stay aboard one night...food WAS excellent i had salmon, steak and shrimp..we did get to listen to the drum group..there were only 4 drummers but it sounded like 8 or 10 guys...

silver cloud singers from new york... they were awesome...we danced a round dance...with the other powwow cruise members...i was goin to put the jingle dress on and dance...at least we could of had a mini powwow for an hour... the powwow was sheduled for wednesday aft

we (me and my mom) still bought powwow cruise t-shirts for a discount at 10 bucks and i got a free esnag t-shirt...
im goin to add letters on mine that say 'i almost made it on the powwow cruise' and i 'almost snagged on the esnag' aye
