I went to this pow-wow, I had a good time. The Kalispels have one of the nicest pow-wow grounds in the country. If there was a downside it was only that there was a lot of ties on Sunday.
There were a lot of positives though. Lots of dancers, 32 drums, free buffalo bbq on Saturday, nice shaded arena, a decent MC this year, free bottled water, I can't really say anything bad about this one. I know that some people want to see a drum contest there, but at the same time I know that some of the locals like the pow-wow the way it is, more manageable for them, and you gotta respect that. I will be back there next year. Oh yeah, some winners: Men's Tradish 1. Leon Old Elk 2. Irvin Tso 3. Colby White 4. Todd Beebe (its been awhile) Men's Grass 1. Joe Sam Scabby Robe 2. Davey Madera 3. Ryan Yellowjohn 4. ????? Men's Fancy 1. Corey Reeder 2. JJ Meninick 3. Louie Plant 4. Gary Smith I was away from the arena when announced the women's. For Teens, all I remember is Teen Boys Fancy 1. Logan Reeder Teen Girls Tradish 1. Empero Corral 2. Temi Meninick Teen Grass 1. Dakota Madera 2. Wesley Iron Shell Jr. (I think, I know he placed) Jr. Girls Tradish 1. Shenoah Bowen 2. Monica Warriors Pistol Bullet 3.????? 4. Amber Davis Jr. Boys Fancy 1. Jonathan Nomee 2. Gabby Corral Jr. Jr. Jingle 1. Destiny Buck 2. ???? 3. Haley Abrahamson Jr. Shawl 1. Dominique Ali 2. Jensen Peone Chicken Dance/ Round Bustle Special 1. Leon Old Elk 2. Joe Sam Scabby Robe 3. Lightning Paul 4. Todd George

I was ready to go over to the World Class Wrecking Crew and throw a blanket over their drum on a few of their songs.......man, they just sucked!!!!!!
Bull Lodge wasn't much better either, I thought they were drunk at first, turns out they just sing that way!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!

As you can see...

What a weekend, though. Besides our drums being NotSoGood, I don't know why there aren't more people attending this one. Decent pay, bad @ss grounds, good stickgame tourney; other than it being out in the middle of nowhere, but, what powwow isn't!
I know it's been awhile since I've gotten out and about, but as far as the NW goes, these are pretty much the best powwow grounds I've seen since Kamloops. As far as this thread, like Tony Montana said: "I always tell the truth! Even when I lie."
