"the tribal princess did not wear Quapaw clothes all weekend"
Actually, she did wear her Quapaw dress yesterday. She did a wonderful job representing the tribe last year and this year, and was in fact chosen to represent AGAIN for next year. Last edited by WhoMe; 07-11-2006 at 11:34 AM. |

Quapaw Powwow
Quapaw was a pretty good powwow. They have good prize money for Oklahoma standards. I don't know about rations because it's too dang HOT to even think about camping. My only complaint is the amount of specials on Sunday night. the contests didn't even start until midnight and it only took one hour to run through those. All the visitors were gone by the time the contests started. They don't understand or care about the specials. It is understood that head staff will have specials but all the extra special songs was just too much. All the dancers were pretty tired by the time the contests started. Is she the only young Quapaw girl eligible to be the princess?

Too many specials and not enough dancing was the another thing that should have taken place in the afternoon. I came to dance. I listened to their MC talk about the gourd dance and how it's done. Pure crap!!! Don't you Kwapa people have any advisors??? Last edited by WhoMe; 07-11-2006 at 11:36 AM. |

as far as being chosen to represent the tirbe again... her only competator was a 13 year old girl who was not there to say anything on her behalf and was not aware that she was nominated..... and she still got 40 votes..Laura got 67 not bad for a little girl who was not aware she was running and not there to say anything on her own behalf.. from what i understand her grandmother nominated her and was not able to answer all the questions...just imagine if Marty could have answered those questions or if her mother was there... i would have voted for the young lady, i know her mother and have met this young lady a few times she is a smart and very respectful young lady..she will do a great job representing our people...... Laura does not represent the quapaw people well. she dresses in other clothes when general council passed she must wear quapaw clothes.. I have seen her grand entry and then change into her street clothes and run around.... that my friend is not the kind of example i want my children to follow........... any way enough of my soap box still not sure i will go home.... |

Wow, when I was princess...YEARS ago...I wore both of my tribe's clothes. No one said crap about it either. Just b/c you're representing a tribal POW WOW doesn't mean you have to wear that tribe's clothes the entire weekend. That's just silly. If you are that tribal princess, everyone knows you are Quapaw. Sounds like just something to complain about if you ask me. I've never heard anyone gripe about that before.
Let's move on.

Let's move on.[/quote] tribal princess is different than POW_WOW princess.. If you are representing a TRIBE than you by all means need to wear the Tribal dress... if you are just a powwow princess that you can wear any clothes that you have the right to wear... |
