Oh My Gawd!!!
Okay the powwow itself was O K. The dancing and singing was done by midnight BUT the winners weren't announced until about 2AM. They (I really should say 'she') didn't have any of the envelopes ready. Nothing was cut yet. EVERYONE was furious, including ALL the Head Staff. Felt sorry for them. We didn't end up leaving until about 3AM!!! yes, 3AM....so from midnight to 3AM we were waiting for them to announce the winners (and that was all chopped up) and to get paid.
The lady that ran this was HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!!! Felt bad for the ppl that were just waiting around for the announcement of winners and didn't place....basically, some were waiting around for nuthin'! "I wanna go home, I wanna go home..." LMAO |

If you're talking about Cheryl from Canada, her last name is
Jacobs... and wow, i didnt know that Nageebah was going back to jingle. Only two in women's fancy... dang... it seems like it was smaller this year than the rest. surprised not seeing brenda and ray on the lists.. they usually try to make it to this powwow... anyways, thanks girl and i'll see you on the trail this upcoming season! |

the last time i went to this pow wow was back about 3 or so years ago, back when it was held the lobby of the Museum. Granted i ddin't dance, just hung out for a few hours. when it was at the museum, things seemd to move along. granted i wasn't there after 5 pm (had to be at a friend's place). friend who went this year said there were a lot of folks there. that gets on my nerves that they had to make folks wait that long to find out they won or not.

Did Vince make it to announce?
In the past, I enjoyed myself at this powwow. Good eats, some good singing. Everything was usually ready after the midnite round dance and we were out before 1 a.m. At Schemitzun, I was glad to see the tradition of the Pequots of feeding the guests. This is one of the most important traditions at all gatherings. Sharing the blessings that are given to them with their fellow man. It's all good. |

Schemitzun is slowly getting crappier every year too. I guess the Pequots can't "afford" a decent powwow anymore. What with having the hugest casino in the world, all those cajillions of dollars must be spent on more important things. I was all set to go but had to miss it at the last minute. Now I don't feel bad at all. Thanks for cheering me up! I won't be going next year.

i finally found a thread bout the new yrs pw. well most ppl kno my dad is jules strongbow so y'all kno he does the pw. well when we got there, things were a mess already. he was suppose to be arena director & we get there & since the person running it didnt send out contracts vince wuznt there. so my dad had 2 emcee w/a bad cold and my boyfriend that had come all the way from oklahoma to spend time w/me ended up helping doing arena directoring. then i felt bad cause john block had come all that way to be the smoke dance singer and there was like nobody besides me. there were no male smoke dancers so they were practically begging for any guys in other catagories to do the special. the winners for that were:
Womens Smoke Special:1st-Melynda Huntington(me!) 2nd-Liz Hoover Mens Smoke Special: 1st-Wyasti Richardson(sorry Taiyin if I spelled it wrong) 2nd-? Then when it was time for dinner break everyone halled themselves up there and the food wasnt ready yet. You had elders that were needing to eat, which they shouldnt have to wait at all. Then when it came time for midnight, things were all messed up. My dad went to do the countdown & got cut off so no one really new when it hit 12 o'clock. I loved what we did in the past and it made new years really special. Things weren't too bad until it came time when we were all sitting there waiting for the winners to be called. Yeah, waiting......and waiting...... There were elders yet once again who shouldve been at home sleeping but instead were still waiting. Elders shouldnt be treated like that. Im sure things couldve been a little worse, but it was imbarrassing bringing someone here from far away and seeing all the caos. Anyways though, HAPPY NEW YRS to everyone!!!!!!
