I went to the RRAFN Powwow in Manitoba, Canada, August 19, 20, & 21 and was not disappointed. For such a small gathering (some categories had as few as 1 or 2 dancers), it was nicely put together. I'd only been to one other powwow in my life (In Rapid City, SD- that one was HUGE!) but I'd have to say they were equally as good.
I was wondering though, if anyone happened to have the results at all? I know it may not have been big enough for too many people from here to even know about it, but I thought I'd try asking. I stayed for the results, but they were announed at 1:30 on Monday morning and by then, I was pretty pooped, I'm telling you- so I guess they're just a little fuzzy to me. Nevertheless, I will definitely go back in 2006. I adore Native dancing and singing and would like to experience it much more often. And remember, if anyone has results, let me know! ;) |

roseau river was alright.......just didn't seem right though that they let their local dancers compete. i kinda felt bad for that lady jingle dress dancer that didn't place , think she was all the way from ontario. one of the dancers that placed in ladies jingle was from roseau so they put a visiting dancer out. there was only 5 of them competing and only 4 places. out of respect for visitors, i wouldn't compete,( just my opinion) maybe yall feel different about that.....all communities that i have been to pay honorariums to their local dancers and do not let them compete. but all in all it was a good powwow. sorry didn't have the list of winners....was tired too to pay attention. sorry!

let's see if I can remember them...
Brown Eagle, G.T.O. (anyone know what that stands for?), Spirit Sands, Wolf...something w/ wolf (sorry). That's all I remember off the top of my head, anyone else remember any? I'm also keeping an eye out for the results posting on the official RRAFN website, maybe the drums will be listed there too. |
