They like to support NDN Ed at several pow wows in the region. The one in Kelso was in May and I haven't missed a year since I started going to it. I went to one in Vancouver last March that was really nice... friendly people too. It was the first time I'd been to that pow wow ... I felt very welcome there.... lots of intertribals and fun stuff going on. I don't have a lot of details on the October pow wow yet. Last I checked they hadn't posted it to their website. I hope that the future of non-contest pow wows gets better for your area. It's sad to see people get all upset over something that is supposed to be enjoyable for everyone.

Yeah thats true! I love going to Aztec ceremonys... if you haven't been to one then you should go then you could see how aztecs relate to Native Americans...it took me forever to realize what I wanted to represent and now I know I'll just represent both!

Roses are red, Natives are brown
I will not frown in my own town My NATIVE pride, I will not hide My NATIVE race, I will not disgrace My NATIVE blood , flows hot and true, my skin is red yours is too My NATIVE people will always stand by through the thick and thin, till the day we die Our NATIVE NATIONS are better than any other, we will live forever. If we take care of eachother NATIVE PRIDE is what I represent NATIVE BLOOD is what I got from descent So step aside and let me through, cuz its all about the NATIVE CREW Life sucks and then we die but us NATIVES WILL DIE WITH OUR HEADS HELD UP HIGH If your NATIVE let it show... Don't be scuurred to let it grow Last edited by Dine_AztecaPrInCeSs; 07-28-2005 at 08:44 PM. |

Non contest powwow
I always try to go to non-contest powwows but sometimes I don't find the time. Before I started school, I always hit up every powwow. Like they say: "Practice makes perfect."
It was a fun way to relieve my stress and dance, now I just get a chance to attend contest powwows. |

I have been a Grassdancer for a long time, in all the years, of dancing, I only went to one competition pow wow in my life, that was about 14 years ago in northern Minnesota. I decided to dance there too. To compete, I never placed, and the experience taught me a lesson, It is my belief that the dancers who show up at these pow wows are usually regulars, and the winners are usually competition dancers. The judging is based on the reputation of individual dancers, and they are the ones that win all the time. In other words i believe these pow wows are fixed. So I dance for spiritual reasons, rather than for the competition. Traditional powwows are a way of life, and in ojibway country there are traditional pow wows every weekend. Competition pow wows just don't cut it for me.....Te Bwe Win

It shouldn't matter. If you are a dancer, you dance at powwows, period. I don't go to hobbyst or new age powwows though.
