Unhappy Trail of Tears Pow-Wow

I was disappointed with the Trail of Tears Pow-Wow in Hopkinsville, Kentucky this past week-end. There was great weather, and great sounding drums, but very few dancers. I can only guess that it might have something to do with the fact that the committee was charging the dancers a $5.00 admission fee to get into the dance. Something not done in previous years.

Drum Competition

Sorry,
I did not stay late enough to hear the announcement of the competition winners. However, "Little Eagle" seemed to be a favorite Northern Drum and "MGD" from Oklahoma was the only Southern Drum, but was also very popular with the dancers.

The number of dancers have been decreasing each year...alot does have to do with the fees...and also, they don't like you to put up canopies to stay cool, alot of the public is rude...I got into it with one guy that was fussing because I had one of those umbrella's on my son's chairs to keep him shaded and I would move it to keep the shade on him...the umbrella was up when the guy sit down there, anyway..he said Lady are you going to ever get that thing fixed...I turned around and said probably NOT! I have to keep my son cool so he can dance!! It really peeved me off...I really don't know why the dancer attendence is down unless it is conflicting with another powwow somewhere...prize money for JR and Teen catagories was down this year...and no 1000.00 for Fancy special...they divided it up for several specials...

Sorry bout that - I just figured since she won the special it was a winner take all.

And about the rude people. I know exactly what you mean - sometimes it seems like although they are there to see what we are doing it seems like we are beneath them and they should be able to talk or act ever how they want.
