Ivan Lonechild is a good dancer, a traditional man and has earned respect during his many years of dancing. How about a little respect, Hachi?
A brawl? I don't get it. I thought that the hosts try to welcome the visitors and show them hospitality. Not scare the crap out of them. |

Confused???
Okay some of you may be a little confused about my post. Let me be clear there were a lot of very good dancers there and yes most powwows now a days are rigged whether you want to believe it or not. This was so rigged that kids were talking about how bad it was. Also what do you mean about sliding my name in there..... I did not even compete at Shinnecock, I was chillin' but I did pay attention to the competition. Every now & then it is good to sit back & watch. I did however place at Schemitzun. I have respect for good dancers and people who put their heart into what they do, so do not assume that I am a disrespectful person. I was looking at the competition for pure dance not the big name of the dancer or how many people they know. I guess you had to be there to get the big picture!!!!! I am glad that other people agree with me.

i was there also, and yes they did have the same judges that judged the same contest both days, as they will undoubtly pick the same dancers they do need to change the judges, but i do think all in all it was fair except for this fact. also if they do make a 18 to 35 catorgie they need to raise the age on golden age to 60 or so, so the age difference will even out. as always the security was bad, when will they get this under control, when alot of people get hurt, also they seemed to have run off certian tribes as say the nagarresents sorry for the spelling. as they were none in the blacket dances, only 2 in the heart of this catories land. something is very wrong.

Heehee!
I was there all 4 days and was able to see it from a lot of different ummm....perspectives shall we say :) There was a lot of issues with the winners. It wasn't even a Shinnecock preference, the judges just have their favorites. My best friend danced and was really ripped off, but that's how it goes. If I can get my hands on a list of all the winners I'll put it up. Here are a few I do know: Mens Smoke Dance, 3rd place: Sean Yazzi Womens Smoke Dance, 1st place: Melanie Tompaho (spelling) Drum, 2nd Place: Silvercloud Girls Traditional, 1st place: Tarlyn Tompaho Boys Traditional, 1st place: Preston (Buddy) Tompaho jr. Womens Blanket, 1st place: Ayana Smith There are some definate security issues going on that need to be fixed. As always, Shinnecocks and Narrangansetts were fighting...happens every year! The concert friday night was awesome, but I'm a little biased. My boyfriend's mom sings with the Thunderbird Sisters. I didn't think I would like Irene Bedard's music, but ended up really enjoying it. Hachi....Where are you from? Are you Shinnecock? |
