I've been seeing posters lately with the heading, "Traditional Contest Powwow."

Is a contest powwow traditional?

I dint think Traditional Pow wows were contest either. Unless maybe they are thinking that instead of cash prizes, the winners take home a blanket?

our traditional sometimes have stipends and spot dances and of course the give-a-ways

in contests the top people get prize money

at least here in Michigan thats how it is ???? is it different else where ??

perhaps they are "traditional" powwows thave have contests. Now, hold on, I know what you;re thinking. Where I live those are two things at odds with each other. But maybe by "traditional", they mean other things, like putting on a feed, or doing other things in association with the powwow that they view as traditional. Or perhaps, they simply mean that they have it by tradition, like an annual powwow. Sometimes when you get away from the powwow homeland, things get a little different.

I don't know either..but traditional can mean held annually at the same time every year and it may be a contest pow wow, but the traditional also means that there are honorings to be held, specials etc...something like that..just putting the two together but not necessarily a money pow wow..where all of the emphasis is on the prize money.
