The National Powwow will take place August 10-12, 2007 at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

This year's theme is: "Honoring Warriors Past and Present"

There will be $125,000 in Prize Money

*Special Male and Female Smoke Dance Categories this year!

Shuttles are available to and from the NMAI Museum and the Verizon Center.

Hey! I know Terry was doing his job down in Seminole land, i saw an NMAI NATIONAL POWWOW CUP on the bar at the Bird Cage!...hahaha!

Unfortunately, there is not going to be gourd dancing this year.

Instead there is going to be a special "Smoke Dance Contest."

Yeah, the scheduling of Saturday night spotlight dances and honorings is going to be a REAL challenge!

I still think it would make sense for one of the "local" area organizations to tag on some non-NMAI sponsored activities in the area starting Thursday or even Wednesday. The National pw is only held every 2 years. Maybe BAIC or somebody would be interested in sponsoring a "co-event"?

Gourd Dancing at Greenbelt National Forest on Thursday ... that would work, yanno?
