Well it's been a while since I have posted. There have been many things go on.
However my nephew who took me to the Spirit of the bison powwow last year has made a heart renching decision.
He has decided to leave ohio and tranfser from Kent state to North west (not sure which college he will go to as he has been accepted to several).
Ryan was looking forward to getting involved with NASA at Kent state but there is no interest by other "Native" students.
Too much talk.
And now he is finding out things about some of the Ohio powwows and the people who go to them.
Some of the people are definitely wannabes, others are skins who are taking advantage of the situtation and pulling the buckskin over peoples eyes.
Ryan has found out about some of the "Drums" in ohio some are blood and some aren't however both sets are not being the right way about things. Acting all Native in public but as soon as they are out of the way of public, they are back stabbers. They have forgotten their teachings.
Powwow committees are also a problem.
Ryan has called several of the powow committees trying to get information, and has been met with a wannabe know it all attitude. At first I thought that he was just over reacting.
I called some of them. And he was not kidding.
The people at Lancaster are a major joke as is their head of heads some wannabe named Hoka. He claims this and that yet only accepts someone if it benefits him. He also let's his friends get away with stuff an shuts out good people.
While I was impressed with the drum Thunder Nation. Ryan found out some things about this drum that really disturb me.
Biggotry should never be part of a drum.
Neither should alcohol or drugs.
Ryan found good head dancers being replaced by apples or wannabes. This is sad.
I haven't seen one powwow listing with that sound company that was at Spirit of the Bison, what's up with that?
They are a good group of people! Their CDs are an honor to our people. This group is respectful and does their best to give back.
The hatred for two spirits in ohio is terrible. Didn't your grandmothers teach you that the Creator gave these people the blessing of carrying both male and female medicine?
I think the "People" of Ohio need to wake up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stop your bullying, hatred, biggotry, lying, stealing, back stabbing, guessing at culture. Get with it people!
You are forgetting it's not about you, but it's about the people as a whole!!! Stand together and help each other!
Remember who has defended you, and who has fed you!
Who has offered warm shelter or a shoulder for comfort.
Who has offered to help with little or no request for compensation.
Take a long hard look at your true culture.
Are you Indian Acting white? and then complaining about the whites acting indian?
Remember the Ancestors and the Creator are relying upon you to live the right way.
If someone has been disrespected, dishonored, and hurt. Make sure that they are taken care of in the right way.
They need to be gone to and forgiveness publically asked for.
Don't use someone to get a recording or sound and then shut them out.
Don't use someone to get free food and then hurt them with lies.
Don't claim to be "Relative" if you can't stand behind the people.
Don't claim to know someone if you don't, (especially when that person is a prominent elder).

Take a long hard look at your drum groups and the people around it. Are they living the right way? Are they praying?

Arena Directors, the burden is on you to make sure that the right things are happening in the circle. It's not a circus.

Head Dancers make sure that you know the Traditions, and to deal with mistakes in an honorable way.

Powwow committees you need to make things right with people you have done wrong. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Don't stab people in the back when things don't always go your way!!!!

Elders (I say this with great respect) it is your place to make sure that things are done right. Step up and stop the wrong doings and the hateful actions that are on a rampage up there.

Two Spirits, Just continue to be you. And Thank you.

Wannabe vetereans, get a life and stop trying to be something you are not.

As for my nephew leaving Ohio. I am happy.
At least I know he knows who and what he is and doesn't want to be something he isn't.

I felt it was time for someone to speak up.

I find that the people who act as know it alls and question everything are sometimes doing so to weed out undesireables.

There are people and drums who TRY, but there are also those who just refuse to learn. They come up with their own protocols, rules and beliefs.

There is also another liar/wannabe that I've been hearing about in Ohio on a post in powwows.com. Help me out here pplz Chief Soft Shell Turtle I think that's his name but that definitly should be added to the list. Did I get the name right? I know very little about him only ppl telling me whats what in Ohio. He said his daughter won Ann Arbor Powwow I think it was fancy shawl and there is no such name on the record. Theres more I think you should just have to look at his name. Kent State NASA, I tried to get a hold of them seeing if they would like to be sponsorers and no reply back. I was bummed. Our organization we have problem with all 6 people out of 23 do not attending meetings. I have gotten on their case time and time again. I'm not going to use the entire quote from Yellowbearwmn, it's too long to put in here, besides you can read it all and then come back to this post. I am sorry you have gotten the opinion of the ppl who's names you put out here for all to see. Some are friends of mine and others I don't speak of, because I don't know them. Of the ones I do know, you need to go talk to them and get to know them a little better, I think you'll find you may have made a mistake in your judgement of them. Shadow Wolf for one trys to honor our Vets with his POW-MIA area and is a fine and loving man, his wife works by his side and believe me it's work. I for one am grateful to him and all he does, his message is "never forget".
Another is Corky, he also is a wonderful man and has helped more ppl than you know. He walks in the right way and isn't ashamed to be who he is, if you took time to talk with him and approach him like a human being, you'd see that.
As for Hoka, he is very good man and maybe he does give some ppl heck and not others. But yelling? I have NEVER heard him yell at anyone, he tries sometimes too hard to please everyone, that may be the one fault he does have. But it's a good one.
John Spotted Horse an honorable man who does things behind the scenes to help and never looks for glory.
I don't know why you have attacked these people, the ones i know and the ones I don't. As for "proof" who cares?
Yes many things go wrong at pow wows, here and other places too. People do wrong things and gossip and all that you have written, but not all of them do that.
I hope you will read this and understand, I could not sit by and watch you trash people that you clearly don't know as well as you think. With respect to you, I ask that you get to know some of these people a little better, then make your decision. Don't go by your first encounter, maybe it was a bad day for them, who knows? Maybe it was one of those days when you've been up 18 hrs. getting a pow wow together,working with the commitee, helping vendors, or hungry, many things may have influenced them and you.

I read all her posts I could find before I came back here with my response. I know she praised and then she dumped on ppl who've never hurt her or anyone else that I know of. Yes Tommy Soft Shell Turtle is on my list also, just no hard paperwork in my hot little hands yet.
My resources say he will probably be at a powwow in Lancaster soon.

As for my nephew Ryan, he has already moved off campus and is in the process of shipping his stuff to Washington State.

I have helped run 49rs (we only participate in sober 49s)
I have relatives in Ohio that give me a lead and I follow up with research and documentation.

I have been up for a whole weekend without sleep.

The whole issue is to uncover the frauds.

Like the new agers running around acting all cool with a horse tail tied to their head, or running bearfoot (now I do understand that some eastern tribes do dance barefoot) this should never be done at an intertribal.
The new age wannabes in their chocolate, blue, green, red and bi colored skin dresses. How wannabish can one be?
Oh women who dance like Kevin Costner in Dances? LOL.
Women out here Have no clue, but then neither do many from what I have seen.

Well - this is pretty serious.

YellowBearWoman - you can go to the threads about Tom Netz and get plenty of information on him. When it comes to him your thoughts are right on. I have not posted on him in sometime but I see that others have. I have not seen the man in quite a while since I moved and left the Mid-West. But before I posted I made sure that I could back up the information - totally. I was happy to send the "paper work" to anyone that PM me and wanted it. I see that others seem to have some serious documentation on him too. I checked the one link to the Newspaper that had stuff on Tom Netz and sure enough it was real. I know have decide to call and get copies for myself.

Anyway, I see in your post that you say you have Documentation for all these accusations. That must be a great deal of Documentation because you listed a lot of people (in this thread) and a lot of powwows (on another thread). Since you have this - should you not offer it for view? Either via Private Messages or just go ahead and scan it and put it in these threads.

Just a thought. I mean for the longest time I got slack about some accusations I made (one about Tom Netz and the other about DNR CI's) - that was until I showed the proof to some that asked for it.

I still say that judging a whole territory is not good - when I was in the Mid-West I saw good and bad Powwows all over Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois - but I did not judge a whole territory based on just the bad powwows.
