Yep, just got a call from auntie, I guess I will be a Southern Thunder that weekend!! The lady that runs it called me with some info and where to fly in, etc. etc. Said the casino hotel is not hosting or giving special rates, something about too much damage to the rooms last year?? LOL I am anxious to try this pow wow, never been to the November one, went when it was in March, too. I am excited, hitting the tread mill to get ready for the dancing part.
My girls will be with their dad that weekend, so I am ready to hit another Cali pow wow, they are good pow wows. |

It seems like the "Invited drums only" thing is over and they are going back to contest singing. Who know, maybe next year there will be no host drums which will free up the host drum money to put into the singing contest! |

Yea!!! Made my reservations today, plans are finalized as far as my trip. I am excited to hear The Boyz and to sing with Southern Thunder...there will be awesome singing with these two as hosts. Alot of times people will decide where they are going to dance by the host drums that are invited. In this case, the committee made excellent choices. Its all about the singing and dancing, and with these two drums it will be a rocking pow wow. Isn't Toronto going on too?

Yeah if you have a well established powwow and can advertise some good drum money, then you can get by without host. But I know we make out decisions on who's host or head staff. But if you are running a powwow without a lot of $$ and can advertise the drum contest, you can probably get some decent drums for the contest. |

Drum Contest
Yes, there is a drum contest this year. It's combined, not separate Northern and Southern as I believe it was in the past. ALSO, it's indoors nowadays, in the convention center arena, which means a really HARD concrete dance floor, so be prepared. It's a nice facility though with bleachers and lighting and such. Its a nice break from the cold and wind.
