I have a question about the Niagara Falls and Salamanca powwows. When do the points for drum contest start? I remember they started on Saturday last year. Thanks.

I spoke with the Casino Entertainment lady who is in charge of the powwow, the is the info she provided...

Friday July 14th - No Grand Entry, No Powwow Contest Points Taken just some Iroquios Social Dancing and $17,000 Smoke Dance Compettition and Iroquios Singing Contest

First Grand Entry(contest):
Saturday July 15th @ 2:00pm (because of border crossing)

Host Drum: Bear Creek
M.C.: Bill Crouse
Head Judge: Barb Hemlock
Head Dancers: Cassie Thomas and Sam Samson
Head Vet: Clayton Logan

Drum Contest: $25K - Same breakdown as last year (anyone know what that was?)

Hotel Rates - $160 and no taxes

yea smoke dance comp. starts on friday for all smoke dancers& you do not need your nation I.D to dance do you?

cuz thats what i read for salamanca powwow

Hey if anyone's interested.. it's not a powwow but the Tuscarora National picnic and field day is this weekend and there's a smoke dance competition. Extra points awarded if you march in the parade on Saturday morning... but picnic starts on friday at 5 or 6pm and goes through Saturday into the evening. Not sure if there's going to be fireball this year, but if there is, stay after dark, follow the masses and enjoy one spectacular game unique to the tuscaroras!
