should I or shouldn't I? In a Dilemma.....Help!
undefinedundefinedI have been introduced to the powwow scene by my friends....I started singing with a local drum group in the area and have had a great time so far.I like to sing ,I am learning a lot a great songs and love to sing. I am so focus on the songs and the drum,I believe that, that is why I'm at a powwow first of all.... to sing for the dancers, the ppl,and everyone else.I respect the drum and we are a sober drum group,we don't use drugs or alcohol... I see all the beatiful native sisters around,I have much respect for the native women, and I feel that I should socialize ,to say what's up and see what's up with the honey 's but at the same time I feel that it would not be respecting the drum. I see the ladies looking and I am tempted at times to say hello,to introduce myself, but something holds me back,I'm a good looking guy,so my question is ....would it be selfish,or would it be disrespectful to the drum,to my group,to the ppl, and powwow in general to go out and talk to the ladies? Is there something wrong with that? so let me know what you all think,I thought that I should ask the right ppl first, which would be the powwow community.I felt that this would be the place to ask, since this is a site for powwow lovers..so help me out here and give me some feedback...all opinions are welcome and speak your mind,please......

Yes, you could go out and talk with the ladys. Nothing wrong with that, just don't let in interfere with what you're doing.

Some drums have their own rules, or teachings regarding this issue, but in general, you would be safe with saving time after the pow-wow is over, or dis-missed for the session, for a little "get to know your local native ladies" time. Pow-wow's are about having fun, and meeting new people. If you do that with good intentions, you will be fine.

Singing at a drum doesn't mean that you become less of a man (especially a good lookin' one!) In my tribe at least, we strive to be Ikceya Wicasa, which is Common Man, humble, human. You have to accept total humility to be as generous and brave and wise as you need to be to live a good life. I know in ALL tribes, being a good husband and father is included in that list of accomplishments....so in other words...GET TO SNAGGIN!! How else you gonna meet one of the finest women walking the Earth? It's good that you step to a lady with respect, but don't forget to be REAL. It's everyday conversation that sustain a good relationship... You also don't wanna come of snobby..or worse yet...make the ladies wonder why you wanna hang with the boys and NOT the ladies...lol ...just kidding! Oh...and by the way, watch out for watchful grannies...they'll keep you in check!

a Dilemma
If you are single, during breaks and after the daily activities or when the drum that you are a part of has completed their day, there is no reason not to talk to the ladies. Make sure they are single and unattached. Show respect at all times. Do not disgrace the reputation of your people and the drum group. Remember people judge you by your actions not your words.
