Metis Powwow in Indiana June 10-11th 2006
Well I have seen alot in my 13 years on the powwow trail but never seen a thing like I saw yesterday. There was no drum they were just playing songs from CD player. No benchs around the arbor for the dancers. And the clothes were true geek clothes.
Its ashame that people arange dances like this that gives a bad name to the non-indians who try so hard to do it the right way. Thease geeks need to learn how its really done, but I guess they never will. So sad.........................

My drum actually contacted them and offered to come sing and they basically told us... no thanks, we got three drums already. So no drums and just cds huh... wow, that's crazy! If you went there, maybe come check out the Indy pow wow next weekend, should be four drums there, us and two others I know pretty well... should be a good weekend! Paselo

I think if they didn't have drums they should have shut down the pow-wow...I am not trying to be mean but I have no understanding of how you can honestly put on a pow-wow and not have drums to provide the music. The drums are one of the most vital pieces one must have in order to have a pow-wow. With out drums there is no songs for the dancers to dance to. Otherwise all you have is a practice session in your room with the cd player turned up loud.
Not trying to offend anyone...was just curious as to how a pow-wow is held with even one drum. Never experienced that in my 27 years of being a dancer at pow-wows. Again not trying to disrespect or cause ill will. These are just my two frybreads worth of opinion. lem-lemch

Ya know what........he was being really nice! I refused to call that a powwow. I call it a gathering.
Yeah....... no lie...... they had a cassette player I thought instead of a cd even..... When I say nice........ he didn't mention all the fur covered beings out there prancing around. It was scarey......... trust me .......very scarey!! All those bare chests and legs and whole coyote hides......

Sounds like a lot of fun travelingmocs and Mato
Did they at least have good CDs or did they play CDs of on-beat, off-tune music? LOL Oh, just to clarify...I know some old Oklahoma people who refer to pow wows as gatherings. Just didn't want people to think that every "gathering" was like this one...some are real and very high quality.

Actually Art's is this coming weekend. You want me to go and take some pics for ya? This dude used to be a part of Art's group though and guess they had a riff because there was a big split and these are the remnants of that Metis tribe and have started their own branch.

Well the tape or CD I heard was ok. But I did not hear much, I was so ashamed of what I was seeing. I could not believe it. AND YES ALL I AM BEING VERY NICE IN MY COMMENTS. I saw many people there who have been dancing for years, and one person there knows better. But hey they are traders now, and I guess anything for a buck. Jezz the almighty dollar. Oh its not a powwow or gathering, Simply put IT'S A GEEK FEST.
Well anyways I knew better to go. So god got back he whizzed on my head while I was there. LOL So whats this dance next weekend, I am kind of scared of Indiana powwows except for Tipton labor day weekend now.

Oh yea I thought about going home and getting my drum and singing songs from Indian chipmonks and Blacklodges childs song tape.
But I was afraid that some of those peps might start trying to use those songs at a powwow somewhere so I changed my mind. And then went to play with my little brothers horses.

Yeah....... the whizz started just after they did that "dance".
Anyway.......the one this weekend has real drums listed. Redshield is supposed to be there. George Martin is coming down.......although I wonder why. It's listed in the calendar........ it's at Eagle Creek Park.
