Ktunaxa qanxa is an unknown quantity at this point
Kyi-yo '06

The dates are Apr. 21-23. Host drums are Black Lodge and Young Grey Horse. Randy Paskemin is head man dancer so War Scout should be there too. Not too sure about lodging but the '49 will probbaly be out towards Fort Missoula as usual, lol.

Kyi-Yo is put on by the University of Montana Native American students. It's a big thing around there. I know. We use to live in Missoula and my wife graduated from UM. It's a great place to raise a family. When we lived there we always danced the circle. When we come back for powwow we always stay at the Best Western on the west end of town. The hotel is about 8 yrs old and is very clean. For good chow for breakfast before the powwow, may I suggest Muralt's Truck Stop at I 90 and Rt 93 (Reserve St). Good food cheep prices. Do not use Reserve St to go to the powwow because traffic is hell around the shopping areas. Use exit 105 at the east end of town and follow the signs to the UM Field House. Buy gas in town away from the highway if you can. The prices are usually a few cents cheeper.

If you miss Kyi-Yo, there are a lot of other powwows throught the summer in the area. Most are just north of Missoula on Rt. 93. Arlee Mt. powwow (18 miles north of Missoula) is held the week before Fourth of July and lasts almost a week. Last year we had 30 drums, lots of food, free camping (some sites with electricity and water). Hand drums at night and my favorite STICK GAME!!!!!!! It seems like Arlee runs 24/7 during powwow week. We drove 4200 miles round trip from Ohio to Arlee last year. It is always worth the trip!!!

There is also Elmo Mt. just 30 miles north of Arlee usually held the weekend after Arlee.

If you travel Rt. 93 please be careful. There are a lot of curves in the road at 55 to 65 mph. The curves come up quick and the road is loaded with very long logging trucks at times. The logging trucks can't help but cross the centerline in the curves. There are also a lot of hills and a few mountain passes to contend with.

Hope this info helps.

Thanks for the info!

Man, it's the same week-end as the 40 + men's basketball tournament @ the Toppenish Community Center. My husband is playing so I guess I'll miss the powwow again!
