Question Overstepping or Understepping?

In competition, what would be worse: overstepping at the end of the song or stopping too soon?

Yeah....either way you missed the stop. Sometimes the judges don't see the dancer who stops early and many dancers now days have "cover up moves" when they stop early. But you know it's real noticeable if everyone stops on time and you're the only one still go'n!! So I guess most of the time overstepping is worse. But then again I've seen some dancers who stop too early like about 2 or three times in the same song.......that's pretty BAD too!

I think they both merit dropping a few points in the ballots by a dance judge.

But, I guess I am the only one who feels that way. . .

Half of the winners in this past weekends dance contests overstepped AND understepped!

Yeah.....did you see the men's grass dance special? Adam Nordwall, JR. might have one that one if he hadn't overstepped. He put on a fine show.....thought for sure he was gonna win it!!

yea you kinda can "play off" an understep - but an overstep is more noticeable ... think its more "impossible" to overstep if you're dancin woman's traditional ... lol

Furious,

Yes, I think if Adam Jr, didn't overstep, he would have taken it. He was definitely the crowd favorite ... with his "Chinese splits!"

And speaking of the subject of overstepping...

Do you remember Jr. Coby from Ft. Hall? He was this little old man dressed in a buckskin and headdress. Jr. couldn't be beat in trick dance competition! He danced on one leg. Up-down, up-down, up-down, etc. When the drum stopped his leg would stop no matter if it was up OR down *L

Hay,

Do you bow to the honor beat on a side step dance?
I see some do, some don't. Whats up with that?

SingerD,

Adam Nordwall Jr. who danced in Denver is in his 20's. Yes, the Adam you're talking about was awesome!

Furious,

Did you dance in Denver? If so, I must'a missed you. Naw, I'm not going to Ft. Lewis. I wished I was ... so I could hear you emcee! I'm saving my annual leave for The Gathering, Lumbee Powwow and Red Earth. Is your sister Ann?
