UNCP 1st Ever Spring UNITY Powwow

The Native American Organizations of UNC Pembroke will host the 1st ever Spring UNITY Powwow!!!!!!!

Saturday, April 22, 2006

This is the first event co-sponsored by all five of the Native organizations on our campus:
Alpha Pi Omega Sorority, Inc.
American Indian Science & Engineering Society UNCP Chapter
Epsilon Chi Nu Colony
Native American Student Organization
Phi Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc.

MC>> Ray Littleturtle
Head Man>> Bobby Hurt
Head Lady>> Jennifer Brown
Arena Dir./Head Judge>> Sharon Berrun
Host Northern Drum>> Stoney Creek Singers
Host Southern Drum>> Southern Sun Singers

Grand Entry will be at 12 Noon
The powwow will be held in the Quad Area (between Old Main Building and the Sampson-Livermore Library - In front of the Clock Tower)

All other information has been placed on the Powwows.com Calendar.

We would love to have as many people as possible come out and support our students. We hope this will become and annual event.

My good bud and I drove down from Raleigh through the rain and hail just to pow wow with these good folk. I think we both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Both Southern Suns and Stoney Creek sounded awesome. I think we have something to aspire towards. Ray was awesome as ever behind the microphone and I think Becky and Sharon deserves recognition for all their hard work with the pow wow. Bobby & Jennifer....keep on dancing!

Yes, I will and I too want to commend Becky, Val and Sunshine for spearheading this first ever Unity Spring Pow-wow - I thought it went awesome...

I would like to thank everyone that came and supported this powwow. It's been a long couple of months, but it all paid off. Everyone I have spoken to seemed to enjoy themselves and I think everyone left with a good feeling, and that's what it's all about.

I would especially like to thank everyone for working so well with us considering all the madness of setting up and getting started. I do not even know all the people that were there helping to set up the arena and helping the vendors, but to all of you that were there thank you. That's the quickest I have ever seen an arena and vendors set up and be ready for business.

To all the head staff, you all did an outstanding job. And to the folks outside in the food booth...you are definitely my heros.

Thank you again to all those that gave even a few minutes of your time to help us. It was greatly appreciated.

Are we looking to do this again next year about the same time? I know its probably temporary...but, any information I can get I'll go ahead and put it on my calendar.

This powwow had a great feeling to it and I hope that this is the beginning of many spring powwows at UNCP. The committee done a great job and the staff was awesome, much love to all of you.

This is something that we are definitely planning for next year. Probably about the same time. We've already started talking about what needs to be done. Hopefully Mother Nature will work with us next year and we will be able to hold it outside like we planned.

This way The Creator has a direct connection with you and only you...no outside interference. When you follow the will of IT that created you, understanding that your purpose is not for you...but for IT and all that IT has created, there can be no wrong except failure to be obedient. Only then do we jeopardize the gifts we are given. Its not the final destination that defines us, rather the journey taken!
