....how's that possible?

I thought Crow was gonna lose it and totally go apesh!t in there. I mean, it was a focked up thing for the committee to have done that. I mean, it wouldn't be so bad if they would have opened up the tabulations for everyone to see....but, it just smacked of some really bad dealings.

I love Eagle Creek, but, damn......they weren't sounding all that great.....and I think R Crew would have won......or Midnight.

HOLAY!!

Mathematically impossible for the drum contest to turn out that way.

We left when they announced a hoop dancer was going to perform before announcing winners. Looks like he miss the excitement.

This powwow is put on by a high school club. I wonder if anyone is going to give these kids a talking to about the outcome of their powwow. When these things happen, it make all the southwest and Navajo look bad.

I wouldn't blame the high school kids. I'd blame the parents!!

They're the reason why the whole Canyon Echoes, 2006 Senior Class is divided and WHY there are TWO powwow committees.

The Senior class is putting on another powwow....different committee.....in a week or so, Whispering Wind.

Canyon echoes, unfortunately......didn't have the FULL support of the Senior Class...and I think that's why it did so poorly. Granted, it does reflect badly on Navajo Land.....but, I think people should remember....not ALL powwows are run this way.

It's a shame though. I haven't been to Canyon Echoes, probably since the 90's.....when it first started up.....and it was my first time back since then. It's definitely SMALLER!!!!! ....admission is still high, but, the interest of people to attend and show their support isn't there anymore.

Powwows in general have more or less faded out on the Navajo res. in recent years. I think because of lack of interest, the high overhead, and low return rate if they're hosting a benefit.....and the real lack fo attendance by dancers in general, often favoring larger contest powwows over smaller ones.

Still......I think we've probably seen the end of the 'powwow every weekend on navajo land' days.

Then again....who knows!!

It's sad though. Midnight, R Crew, Calling eagle and the other two drums there really put out some good singing and gave it their all.......only to be given the gate, unjustly, and unfairly. Eagle Creek was caught in the middle of it all...........and I'm sure they probably felt "someway" about winning.

But........I guess one can only blame the committee. The parents for their poor example. I mean, I'm ALMOST 100% sure it's like a small group of people who had their hands in the whole mess and really made things go bad for alot of people attending.

Oh well.

wildcats06 is an unknown quantity at this point
Thumbs down Absolutely disappointed......

All at the beginning, it started with a delay on Canyon Echoes head staff and stalled with little response. Sees like the sponsor was not thrilled to run the show, but had to do it. This powwow will put a bad impression on the other powwows and which will cause very little to attend. If Whispering Wind responded that Canyon Echoes was cancelled, than Whispering Wind powwow sponsor is trying to make themselves better than other powwows. However, Senior class again is sponsoring Whispering Wind again next week, so where is the money going from Canyon Echoes. To give the profit to Whispering Wind? ? ? Still short in $ $ $ for payouts? Another thing I didn't like is the readmissions fee. Readmission was still the same as the regular admission fee. How greedy was the sponsor? ? ? At both ends, both powwows will probably have the same results. Parents from Whispering Winds are experiencing the same problem in raising funds for their powwow. How stupid to separate the powwow? ?

YEPPERS!!!
could be also ...sponsors did not know what they were doing.. figuring splitting the powwow would be a beneficial asset to the community... uhhh.. but it backfired!!

I think what kicked off everything was the $8.00 admission charge to begin with... then to find out some of the Head Staff were a no-show. After that, it was a trickling down effect... huh.. and the drum contest results.. now that was the icing on the cake... oh well.. oh ummm... down the powwow trail!!!...

don't forget YOUTHFEST>>> everybody!!!.. come on out and support Office of Dine' Youth!!

YouthFest Yeah

I'll be there but I'll probably be teaching my ex's nephew how to dance fancy since I just got through making his entire fancy bustle ensemble, man, how weird is that going to be added is the fact that her new boyfriend will probably show and just add to the weirdness level, but yeah I'm still going to dance and sing.

i don't think it'll be wierd. Remember your nephew will not think so either.. he'll be just too fired up with his new outfit... the excitement of that will erase the "wierdness"... lol

Tiyo, more power to you.

There is a saying that goes "you are what you do when the chips are down". In spite of who is there and what is going on, dance and sing your heart out. You'll be that much more confident that you can endure obstables and move on.

Go Bro!

It's like a waste of my time if I sang my heart out and know you were there two days and a drum comes in and sings for one day........and gets first! THat is rigged or just not powwow saavy. Sorry Chinle, but lessons learned. And for admission, come no now? What's up with that? I'm sure people have to go outside to take care of business or get something to eat, that's outragious. We will be going to the Whispering winds powwow, hope it's not the same.

We went to Flag, it was a great powwow. Rocky Park placed first, followed by Four Moutain nation and Bear ?, can't remember their name. It was an awesome turnout. Family was all there, with friends. Food was inexpensive, no problem with admission. Just groovy. No drama......just fine.

Hey, see you all at San Carlos!!
