dang ignorant dumb azz - she/these type of people (jim pankiw - google his name) don't know the slightest idea as to what the hell they are talking about.

talkin about these so-called tax havens (reserves) - fak with like 95% unemployment rate on reserve and the "average" income of a person living onreserve receiving social assistance is $195.00 a month and a amazing $240.00 if you are head of a household - no matter how many people are in your family.

and that is an amazing $27.30 - $33.60 (7% pst/7% gst - in sask anyways, alberta has no prov. tax - not sure of the other provinces) a month in tax free spending!!!! that's if you spend all your cheque at your local reserve store - and most are not more than convenience stores (7/11's). they don't realize that everyone pays the taxes no matter who they are if they spend off reserve - gotta love walmart!!

as for the gas - around here its a big savings of 0.11 a litre - and for me a big savings of like $4 - $5 a tank. not really worth driving outta my way to a on-reserve gas station.

then there's the smokes - i don't smoke but they run about $12 a pack off-reserve and $6 on-reserve. and you are given a limit every month not sure how much it is and most of the time - more like everytime - there some WHITE person sittin outside a gas bar - "can you buy me a carton of smokes?" - i always say "FAKK OFF!!! - you can't afford to smoke then quit" they try get all righteous - "well i never!!" and i just walk away.

then there's that so-called "free education" - dang almost everyone ndn that i know who had gone on to post secondary education have done so on student loans and maybe like 5 people got funding.

it's next to impossible to get funding unless you're related/dating/married to chief and council. and the student allowance is waaayy under the proverty line that most quit becuz of starvation .. lol. the last time i heard it was like $675 or so a month. i could be wrong.

Dude, don't waste your energy. If you were to try and refute this person's argument then they would find another way to say we are "lucky". Little does this person know all of our tragic history. Even if they were able to understand this they would still say we get great benefits. Its not worth the time it would be to write off this person.

Flew over my head in some aspect. Since I don`t SMOKE or DRINK, Did most of my life and QUIT on MY OWN with no problem. Complete turn around. Lest ways, so far. I have two grandchildren that are going to be lawyers and have one daughter graduating college this spring and already has two offices for Child and Youth Councelling . She loved working with Native children at the Friendship Center. We are very proud parents. I do enjoy doing beadwork, don`t sell, I give as gifts. Lot more pleasure out of it. But it has to be a lliving for some people, in order to survive in this world as we see it.

Thanks to you also. I know....I just read what smokin` ace2 posted HOLY~ loooonnnnnggggggggg. Most is no true regardless. As Natives know, things are not handed to them. I worked hard to where I am today. Working hard.I mean is I knew I had a strong mind and strong will-power.....just have to focus on what my priorities are...........too late on some of the things but never too late to do and to learn. Life is too short to "worry" about other peoples sad words. I spent too long a time doing just that.

A lot of people think that we are lucky for some of the benefits. And the fact that Native People were on this land of ours for Thousands of years. When I posted about the homeless, it was for all walks of life because I hate seeing people go hungry. Been there with my siblings, at a very young age. Who introduced the alcohol to the Native people in the first place? The diseases .............we are a minority people and probably will still be until .............Actually not even back in `89 according to a friend, about reading from a book, listing the statistics of these people and the Nastive people were not even mentioned as a minority. NO t mentioned at all. We are still here though and always will be.......
