Guess they weren't in the "in crowd" and judges were playing the name game and not judging on how they dance!!! HOW PETTY.

I hate to admit....but I have to agree with one goofy ND. The judging was very questionable.

I've been to this pow-wow many of times and have been a head judge and head dancer before.....so I know what is expected of all of them.

Here are my pros and cons........
+
usually 1st pow-wow of the year for alot of people

lots of excellant dancers

good drums

good vendors

BBQ & Sweet Tea

Always lots of tiny tot dancers!

Good AD

Awesome Men's Fancy Dance Competition

Bon Fire

Chief Richardsons enthusiasm

_

head dancers competing

tribal employees competing / judging and winning

adult competitions were in the dark and rushed

same judges from the "NC Pow-wow Trail Clique"

friends judging friends

Few out of state/visitor or elder judges

People on stage looking over the judges shoulder at time of line up

Just writing what y'all are thinking!

Let me just say I was pi$$ed off Fri night and should not have gone back the rest of the weekend. Why??? Let me explain..... I showed up at the powwow on Fri night at around 8:00 and me and my friens were charged $36 to get in. We asked how late the powwow was goin on. They said at least 11:00.Cool!!! Well we got in there only to have it close up around9:30 WTF??? What a rip off!!!!!! Guess the "other"dance was more important!!!!

Sweet_N8tive65,

I appreciate your opinion and your response to the "questionable" judging practices at our powwow. What in your opinion is wrong with the head dancers dancing in competition? For one, the powwow committee has not been given the funds to fully pay head dancers, so we allowed them to compete. Second, I feel that the head dancers are at a disadvantage anyway when it comes to competition. They're expected to dance HARD every dance, not just sit around in the shade waiting for contest to come up like a lot of dancers do these days.

What is wrong with Tribal employees dancing at the powwow. Are you saying the powwow is rigged if they place? I"m sorry that the adult competitions were in the dark and "rushed". I"ll recommend to the committee that we rent some extra lights. As far as being rushed, I've been to a lot of powwows that do contest a lot quicker than we did.

Now, for the judges. I swear I tried to "mix it up" and had a lot of out of town judges. Folks from Michigan, Canada, Kansas, Cherokee, and other places were called as judges. I'm sorry folks from the so-called "NC Pow-wow Trail Clique" were judges, but that's who was mostly there!! Oh should we call judges from other places only? I don't think so. Again, I appreciate the responses, and all of this will be taken into consideration. I hope you'll still come back to see us.

Well - I still had a ball - and Marty I think you did a superb job. The fact that this pow-wow is still being discussed two weeks after the fact tells us that it left an impression. I am looking forward to seeing all of you folks at Lumbee this weekend - then you can carry on the *****ing after that. I am sure someone will get pissed off at something.

Pow-wow hard!!!!

...and one more thing!!!

It shows the integrity of this pow-wow committee in the fact that they do post their comments here. How many times have we seen pow-wows slammed to the ground and stomped on and their reputations ruined? If any or all of these allegations or statements had merit, the committee may not be coming out to speak. I applaud any committee that speaks up - it defuses many situations....I am proud of the committee and I think things ran rather smoothly - of course, I did just sit in the shade and visit with my fam - lol. But it's all good.

It is one of the pow-wows that everyone looks forward to... it does rock - and I am not just saying that because it is my tribe... I say it because it is true.

For the short time that I was there on Saturday, I really enjoyed myself. It was good to see some old friends. Marty, you did an excellent job, as well as, all of the p/w committee. Y'all keep up the good work. See y'all down the road.

I've taken some good pictures at our pow-wow this year. But I'm having trouble uploading them . My files are too large and I'm not quite sure if I can decrease them in size. Oh well, patience is a virtue. I'll figure it out!
