Ok everyone I suggested we have a Smoke Dance Forum, Paul says people have to show sometype of interest.....So I know I'm not the only one who would LOVE to have a Smoke Dance Forum. So please tell everyone Why U think we should have one. Cross your fingers!!!

heard the peeps disrespecting this year up alberta way on the smoke dance they need to be set straight i heard? grinding doin the worm whats up with that.

Sorry I might not have said it right. You need to start some threads discussing Smoke Dancing like techniques, outfitting, history,etc. Then is there are enough peple discussing it I'll open a forum.

i would love a smoke dance forum. compare fast songs to slower songs. regalia ideas. who sings the best! all that fun stuff.

i'm going to tell you'se what i know about smoke dance!
there are alot of storys on the orgins of the "SMOKE DANCE".such as...the smoke dance was done longtime ago to clear the smoke out of the lonhouses . the young men would get in the middle of the longhouse and do this dance. using their eagle fans to wip away their tears caused by the heavy smoke in the longhouse. BUT soon enough the smoke was cleared from the longhouse!.......and Blah Blah Blah

....yeah sounds like a believable story HUH!.....BUT we don't do this dance in any of the haudenosaunee longhouses..for social or for ceremony in anyway!.long time ago the old folks who were into doing " Dance Shows "...at statefairs , indian villeges , wild west shows ect....you know the story!....LOL...anyway they did dance shows of different iroquois social dances and Smoke Dance( war dance) ( rain dance) was what the people liked the most!....so they did this dance made different stories to go along with the songs and dance style.

the last time the iroquois used their war dance songs were in 1812.And instead of losing these songs they decided they would use these songs in their "Dance Shows" .from what i'm told the original Iroquois war dance was what we call the Scalp Dance.

the war dance we use for ceremony today comes from the osage people!. wasasehonoh for the thunders. it would be great disrespect to use these songs outside of the ceremony we have for the thunder beings!.

anyway...the smoke dance is kinda just made up!....not old at all....some of the songs used in smoke dance contests are old social dance songs or just made up for smoke dance !....we do not use any of our ceremonial songs for show!....we keep them at the longhouse were they belong!....

anywho...this is what i know of the smoke dance! i've asked some elders from my rez . this is what they told me.....BUT if anyone else knows anything different ! post it!....~!
