Where do these yahoos get this stuff from?
I often wonder where these yahoos and wannabes get some of the crazy things they say from. I've heard and read some weird stuff here this week and from others and it just got me to wondering...
Things like.... 1. Grass dancers must have the same thing on the front and back. 2. Fancy dancers can only use certain "family" colors. 3. Jingle dancers must have 365 jingles, plus 4 for the four-directions, and one "ghost" jingle. 4. Only veterans can gourd dance. Stuff like that...what all have you guys heard that makes you shake your head?

the jingle thing was 1 jingle for each day of the year and 1 row for each direction.
family color thing i heard for pretty much any style/ grass front and back probably a *******ized version of the "dance the same things with your left side as your right." gourd dance, often described as a warriors dance, hence the veterans. where i heard these things from .... 1. videos, 2. powwows 3.indians 4.whites 5.boy scouts |

Ok......you sitting down? This is some of the stuff I've been told over the years.........
I was told I can't wear black and red together...... because they are "warrior colors". Didn't make a difference if they had other colors with em or not.  The powwow is a "ceremony".  I was "taught" how to properly ...wear my shawl...... fold my shawl.... what colors my shawl should and shouldn't be. What type of fringe my shawl should have..when i should or should not wear it and how I should or should not hold it. Oh....... and if it ever touched the ground it had to be burned. I was also told that an aged white guy that claims to be apache that dances barefoot, backwards is a chief elder. I gotta quit for a bit.........my tummy is hurting.

I had on my purple cloth regalia, and this woman came up and said - "Aren't you Haliwa-Saponi?" YES. I replied. "Great, what is the significance of the color purple to your tribe?" I said, "I dunno." She: "Well, why are you wearing this color?" I said - "Cuz it's my favorite - and I really dig it?" She put her pen down - hmmmm....
I know - I know - I shoulda answered.....
