I have a question here, involving who can be a Head Vet Dancer at a pow wow. No one here in our Society can seem to agree on this.

One person in our Society nominated a certain person to be the head vet dancer. The person who nominated him is the Powwow Committee Chairman.

Well, the Veterans society says that this person that was nominated can't be the head vet dancer because he is not a 'combat' vet. Now the Veterans Society is saying that the person who nominated him is trying to destroy the powwow. The Veterans society has told our group that if this person is head vet dancer, they will not attend the powwow, and the drum group that has been doing our powwow for the past 10 years or so also will not come to our powwow.

Problem is, everyone of course feels strongly about both sides here. Neither wants to back down. I'm of the mind that the Veterans Society is here to advise the group, not take over it and demand that we run things their way. But I can see their viewpoint as well. I'm pretty much stumped over what to think of things.

What's your opinion on this situation? Has anyone hears of a situation like this? Is there any set rule as to WHO exactly can be a Head Vet Dancer? Do they have to be a combat vet? Should we accept the Veterans Society's "do it our way or else"? Is there a right side and a wrong side? I need some opinions and hopefully facts here if anyone knows 'em, or can point me to websites or other people to talk to. We need to get this straightened out so we can get on with planning our next powwow.
