Sounds like there were issues at the rodeo arena:

- Contestants upset with treatment at Ceremonial rodeo - http://gallupindependent.com/2006/aug/080306crmrdo.html

- Petition alleges disrespect by Ceremonial rodeo - http://navajotimes.com/

Isn't this usually the other way around???

I guess we really had it good at the powwow arena, because the only complaint I had was with the bees that were in my vehicle!

This event may end up occuring in early June next year. The association is trying to distance the Ceremonial from the Sante Fe Indian Arts Festival as much as possible.

There may be some issues relative to sales commissions of arts and craft sold at the ceremonial. As it is right now, vendors will try not to sell their crafts until they are displayed at Sante Fe and possibly get a better price as well. When they do that, the ceremonial don't get anything.

Ceremonial date revised, rodeo axed for 2006

By Zsombor Peter
Staff Writer

GALLUP — Change, it seems, is not always good. Sometimes, things are better left as they are.

That's the lesson the Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonial's board of directors took away from two years of unsuccessfully experimenting with different dates. According to board President Louis Bonaguidi, it voted to revive a bit of Ceremonial history recently by returning the annual event to the second week of August, the same place it's occupied on the city's calendar for most of its 85 years. At the same time, it's done away with a bit of the past by deciding not to host an All Indian Rodeo in 2007, something it's done for nearly half those years.
