New Year's Eve Shonto Powwow, Shonto, AZ.

Hey, who went to Shonto? It was a good powwow. We thought we were lost out there, but after things started picking up, the powwow was up and going.

I don't have the winners list, but a lot of people showed up there. I don't remember all the drums but Eagle Creek was the host and let's see; Eagle Whistle Jrs, Rocky Park, Star Horse, Towering House, Black Creek, and Singing Eagle all showed up.

There was a grass dance special, chicken dance special, veteran's honor special, and a tiny tot special.

Anyone have the results?

Okay from what I remember....
Paris Leighton took first in mens Tradish
Acosia took it in womens jingle also the jingle dress special...
Urseloria (Ursula???) took second I believe and her sister placed in womens fancy....
Wesley Windyboy took the mens grass also the special and Darnell Baker took second.....
Lydall Yazzie won the mens fancy...
Raetavia Yazzie took first in womens tradish....
In the drum contest
1st went to Eagle Whistle, then 2nd Rocky Park, then towering house....
In the chicken dance special...PAris took third and I don't remember the rest.....just having fun singing and there was a whole lot of singin......
No restrictions on anything except sitting by the mural on the wall.....we round danced the new year in....and had so much fun.......this year was worth going to ......

The only thing was they kept telling everyone to stay away from the murals painted on the walls above the bleachers. Oh, they had a hand drum contest too. Tasheena Begay sang outstanding, she's an awesome singer. All in all it was fun. I met a powwow.com member from Michigan too. After the countdown it snowed outside, that was unbelievable, since we've been hurting for snow. Great singing and great dancing.
