Craziest Give Away Gifts
What is the Craziest Powwow Give Away Gift you ever gave?
What is the Craziest Powwow Give Away Gift you ever received? WhoMe gave: A laundry basket filled with toilet paper, deodorant, athletes foot powder, toe nail clippers, nose hair clippers, soap, shampoo, conditioner, wash cloth, comb, hair brush, tooth paste and tooth brush. The announcer had a good laugh with this one! He asked the recipient if he had ever seen or used any of these products before! WhoMe received: An Ice Chest filled with ice and ummmmm* ... liquid refreshments. (Good thing I waited to see what was inside... in privacy!)

I've been pretty lucky. I usually get goot stuff. It's kewl to get something diff. than a shawl every freakin time. *L* When I sing, we usually get some tight stuff sent out to us. Plus ya know....smokes are goot. *L* The cash is cool too. I'm just happy with whatever I get!

Strangest thing I ever got was a guy came and gave our group some tobacco and then the "sacred salt". I'm not so sure it was salt LOL We took the tobacco and politely declined the "salt".
Another time this lady had a giveaway and laid a blanket out and called people up (drums, principals, etc.) to choose somethinig off the blanket. Not a bad idea in principle, but it looked like a really bad yard sale. One of the guys on the drum got a shoe...not a pair, but one shoe LOL I think I got a plastic plate. Oh, did I mention that both of these dances were held in the great pow wow state of Virginia LOL

At one of the pow-wows I went to this year, in addition to some of the usual stuff I've seen, such as picture frames, socks, mugs, etc., they had commodity foods. There were juices, canned vegies, and flour. No cheese though, that probably would have gone quick.

Electric Blanket In Hawaii - LOL
a friend and i went to a pow wow recently. It was hosted by a family who son died on the way home from another pow wow a year ago. at the end they held a give a way to thank those who came and participated. i am from the same state as where it was held, friend is from hawaii. one of the things that the emcee announced was distance, any one who travelled a great distance step forward. Friend being from Hawaii stepped forward, the family gave her an electric blanket, then the emcee asked her where she was from. to say there was sniggering was an understatement.

at a pow-wow in canada everyone in the family was handed either socks or dish rags. wich isnt so unusual but in that area apparently is was custom to hold up your gift while they sang a song. So we got a little chuckle holding up our socks and rags! LOL. but at least they were usefull gifts! and yes they were new...lol!
