thizgirl, O yeah, I saw Mato do this one time inside the Red Horse Cafe. Only thing, all she was wearing was a cowboy hat, boots and spurs........ *LOL Is it funny to watch where you come from? Heck, there was standin' room only for Mato's performance!!

the prize money im not sure about you would probably have to call one of the committee members, but last year powwow was $300, $200, $100 in adults and there were 18 drums present

A Hat and Boot special is where guys compete in men's traditional wearing jeans, a cowboy hat and their boots. To this they'll sometimes put on a bustle (sometimes not), beaded cuffs, maybe a breastplate, and maybe aprons. Its sort of like the guys coming in from the ranch still wearing their cowboy gear and not having time to change into pow wow outfits for the dance.

well, first of all, the committee decided to have the powwow traditional after i posted on here, so they ended up having specials, there was about 8 or 9 drums each day, i only went a couple of hours each day, had to work

The Boot and Hat special is something they used to do long long time ago. Like SingerDad said, it was for the cowboys who could dance, but either didn't have time to get their stuff together, or didn't have time to make it. This is also a way for the oldsters who "retired" to get back out and shake some stuff around. It's a cool thing to bring back, and it brings back some really old songs. Tuff guy songs!
Incidentally, I went to this powwow. It was great! Except, I couldn't make it Sunday because of the rain and sleet, and I had to drive all the way back to RC. ANyone got the results? |
