Need INFO!
That's a good web site, but it still don't give any info on the powwow. Who's the head staff gonna be? Where's the contact info? Does anyone know anything about this powwow? What's the prize money? All these things are good to know, it helps to know when deciding to go to a powwow or not.

Is there really going to be an Aztec Dancer Category in the powwow competition? Ayee.
Then too, yet again, no contest prize money, category placing (1-3, 4, 5 or more places) nor consolation mentions for a 'southwest' powwow. Aaaand where's the drum split? This is very important stuff to put on ANY flyer or advertisement, I'm sure the "public" doesn't mind buuuut the dancers & singers always need this information, make note. The Midnight "Friendship" round-dance reads like a snag-fest. Hokaaah....!!

Only if you're desperate
Unless you're desperate for a powwow, I wouldn't recommend this one. Especially, if you're into contest dancing for $$$$!
This is more like a social powwow/new age festival. Maybe thats why there not posting the $$$ prize. |

I asked my friends in Tucson about this one..... They said it used to be called New Millineum First Peoples World Fair and Powwow. It was also called "Thunder in the Desert." In years past it was 11 days! Therefore Indian attendance, particularly at the powwow, was - a minimum. I suppose if you're into "midnight friendship round dances" this will be the place to be. Quoted from their website: "Peter Jennings expressed to his audience that only among indigenous people do we see man holding hands with other men to bring in the New Millennium during our midnight friendship round dance. The elders and the indigenous communities have asked for it to be repeated an additional three times to fulfill the sacredness of the number four. The all-volunteer committee has committed to complete this request in the years 2004, 2008, and 2012. We also sent out information in all four directions of the world to invite the four races of mankind, the red, the yellow, the black and the white to participate, share, experience and taste this unique event of ten thousand years of cultures, one hundred fifty tribal nations, 12 days all at one location, Tucson, Arizona, USA."
