A little bit over two weeks away for this first-time event in Gilbert, AZ. The temperature range is currently 30 at night and a pleasant 70 degrees during the day. It should warm up to 75 degrees by the time the powwow comes around.

The schedule for Saturday seems like it's not all together. Can anyone check on what actually happens from 11 AM to 6 PM? The "Entertainment" portion might not work out too well if there is Gourd Dancing as well.

Personally, I think that the "Entertainment" portion should be limited to spots in between powwow sessions (at supper break) rather than during the gourd dance or powwow portions.

The revised schedule for Saturday is:

10 AM - Gourd Dance
11 AM - Special Entertainment
12 PM - Grand Entry/Dance Contests

6 PM - Gourd Dance
7 PM - Grand Entry
8 PM - Special Entertainment
8:30 to 11 PM - Dance Contests

The singing contest is combined ... Northern and Southern competing for four places.

Contestants in the adult dance contest categories are also competing for four places. I don't know how if the categories are combined or not.

The last major attempt in the Phoenix Metropolitan area was with the Morning Star Celebration at the Veteran's Memorial Coliseum. It was a good start, but flopped out during the second year when they moved out to Diablo Stadium.

One can only hope to break even.
