There are a lot of Indian owned casinos in New Mexico.

This time of year would be an excellent time for the New Mexico casinos to have a series of contest powwows much like the California powwows have done for the fall and spring.

Whatcha' think?

Isleta
Santa Ana

Also,

San Juan
Acoma
Tesuque and
Taos!

Oh and the two at the Jicarilla and Mescalero Apache rez!

Maybe you can suggest it on the NM powwow site. I'm sure someone with influence within these casino tribes has taken a "look see?"

Actually that would strengthen the NM powwow circuit!

December is a good month to have visitors stay down there and powwow!~

Would be nice but this is most of their Feast time. So they are all busy with all their traditional stuff during the winter. Plus just because they are casino, doesn't mean they all have the big $$$$ like Cali does. San Felipe didn't have theirs this year because they had no $$. Plus some of the other pueblo tribes don't even powwow.

Now if they were all smart enough, they would do any type of casino powwow circuit time around GON since everyone comes down here anyways.

But good luck to get all the pueblos working together to form a circuit. ayeeeeeeee.

Ta'neez............ is Gallup in NM?? haha... Some are still trying to disclaim it and say they are from ya'ta'hey!!! So I guess your trying to claim Gallup huh?

Nezb,

I forgot about that. You're right. Maybe late November - early December would be better? Your also right that some can't afford it. But, some can.

It's crazy but at least some individuals from every pueblo like to powwow! It is amazing how so many Indians from NM can still speak their language!

I checked out the NMPowwow website. I couldn't believe how many drums are in NM. I have heard of some of them but there are a lot. I saw where serveral of them come from pueblos.

__

Florida also made some back to back powwows at one time and several people stayed for all 3. (even though they were weren't all backed by casino dollars).

Bandit is an unknown quantity at this point
Maybe they are smart to avoid all the bickering or politics associated with powwows. LOL I am sure they read threads on this site. Of course, they have their ceremonials, feasts, and other tribal doings.

LOL....... Well all I know its not just the feasts but its their ceremonial season just like our tribe, the Dine'. We start our firedances, etc so most of the Dine' traditional families are busy with all that.

Yeah there are alot of pueblo drums and some dancers. Hate to say it, but most of the dancers are Dine'.....ayeee. There are few here and there, some I have alot of respect for. But like the Sandia they don't even host a powwow or Isleta tribes, only maybe the HS Native American groups, etc. If I am wrong, someone correct me. Zia's don't have one either. Can anyone see the Dancing Eagle Casino hosting their own powwow with big $$$?? Shoot they advertise $1.00 Blackjack or was it .50 cents. I can't remember that billboard.....

Anyhow, if anyone was smart a circuit would have to be after Denver March and Before GON, there is a big break there to have a powwow in the SW every weekend with big casino $$$. But thats in another perfect powwow world.....haha

But you have to have mad respect for those tribes who keep, teach, and learn their own language. Plus keep their culture and traditional culture in synch with the modern world as it is. What we call .... Hozho.

Meanwhile keep dreamin about your worldwide powwow circuit....ayyyyyyeeeee..kidding. See on the trail one of these days. If you have time come to our childrens christmas powwow in Albs on the 17th of Dec. The second to the last one on the list. I am the head organizer of it and we just started our NA Club this year. The kids and families are excited, so come out. I'll post more info on the sites soon.

would be nice

It would be nice if there were more contest powwows sponsored by casinos. Would bring more tourism to the state. This year has been a year for alot of powwows for NM, within the past 4 years things died down.

Glad to see things boomin' again.
