I was told once upon a time Crow Hop was for Men, Women and Children to immate the movements of
a crow... Recently I was told Women & Children are not aloud to dance Crow Hop, and ha hose who do dance it are UN-Tradtional. I was all so told years ago Buffalo, is not a women's dance, but lately I have seen los of women dancing Buffalo. What's up with it? I know differant tribes differant beliefs on some things... if you could answer, it would be very helpful

I'd love for some of these so-called experts down in Florida tell some of these Crow women that they're being untraditional by dancing to their own songs. Crow hops are Crow (the people, not the bird) songs...not about hopping like a crow (bird).

The Crow Hop style is danced by everyone. It's become a style thats very popular amongst competition powwows for almost every category, mens & womens. If you powwow, i think its important to learn the various styles you might be asked to dance while competing....Crow Hop is what womens crow style is known for....don't believe everything you'v heard.
Good thing you asked tho, someone out there is very misinformed!

I heard once, that Jingle Dress dancers aren't supposed to dance to Crow Hops because it would make the world spin backwards.
I'm wondering if this is just a Powwow Urban Legend... Can someone shed some light into this? Thank you...

Well i don't dance jingle, but i think there was a discussion in the Jingle forum about dancing crow hop, and some of the girls said they had done it, and the world hasn't spun backward yet! I don't know if it counts as an urban legend cuz i've never heard about that before but then again, like i said i'm no expert.

wish I could move but to many hold backs here, maybe someday i will get to go to pow-wow elsewhere. untill then I will try my best to change some of the expers around here, or at least give it a run for the money
