Here's a little info about the benefit, taken from one of the organizers:
This Benefit is for our O'odham (Pima/Papago) villages in Mexico. The current status of the O'odham people in Mexico is very poor. Our people just south of the U.S./Mexican border are currently suffering from extreme injustice by the Mexican Government. As many people of all color face similar issues around the world, our relatives are faced with starvation, lack of resources, and not to mention many horror stories that the Federales and the Mexican Army have inflicted upon our people, Everything from Beatings, Rape, and Murder. This coming September we hope to not only raise donations to help send Food, Farming, Medical, School, and Clothing supplies, but we also hope to bring awareness within our own community here in Salt River along with everyone within the surrounding cities and throughout the country. This Benefit has also been designed to bring our O'odham people together with hopes of educating and raising the consciousness of the minds of our youth and generations to come. The theme of this years benefit is 'Unity Without Borders'. The concept is to unite all O'odham peoples, as well as all people of color. The physical border that separates our Indigenous peoples is a serious issue. *But the mental border amongst all people is on a much larger scale.* We as human beings need to educate one another and help each other overcome the segregation and oppression that is controlled by selfishness, greed, and power. The selfishness and greed that is etched into the minds of millions needs to be overthrown and a new breath needs to be inhaled into our hearts, and spirits. This awesome two-day event starts today!
I was fielding calls and e-mails from bands all night wanting to know what equipment I had and forwarding their stage plots. Gosh, for one group alone, I need 18 mics, 3 DI boxes, and six monitors! Somehow, I have to support two stages with bands flip-flopping between the two. Now I now I really need to get a mixer with 20+ inputs and a drum-mic-kit. It's a good thing I have 6 wireless mics for vocals. Anyways, if anyone's curious about the sound support I provide and how the equipments sounds in a multi-band setting, come out to McDowell and Longmore on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community for the 3rd Annual Resolution Rez Fest this weekend! |
