2005 Southern Ute Fair Contest Powwow

Just thought I would provide you all with some powwow information. If you are in the area or tired of going to the usual gathering consider yourself invited - come and check this powwow out.

September 9-11, 2005
Ignacio, Colorado
Sky Ute Events Center
Over $100,000 in Prize Money

All Adult Payouts: 1st-$1,000 / 2nd-$800 / 3rd-$600 / 4th-$400 / 5th-$200
All Teen Payouts: 1st-$500 / 2nd-$400 / 3rd-$300 / 4th-$200 / 5th-$100
All Junior Pay-outs: 1st-$200 / 2nd-$150 / 3rd-$100 / 4th-$75 / 5th-$50
All Tiny Tots recieve day money each session

Adult Womens Division (18-49): Fancy Shawl, Jingle Dress, Southern Cloth, Northern Cloth, Southern Buckskin, Northern Buckskin
Womens Golden Age (50-64): Southern Division, Northern Division
Womens Elder Division (65 plus): Combined
Mens Adult Division (18-49): Southern Fancy, Northern Fancy, Grass Dance, Southern Straight, Northern Traditional, Chicken Dance
Mens Golden Age (50-64): Southern Division, Northern Division
Mens Elder Division (65 plus): Combined
Teen Girls Division (12-17): Fancy Shawl, Jingle Dress, Southern Traditional, Northern Traditional
Teen Boys Division (12-17): Fancy Dance, Grass Dance, Southern Straight, Northern Traditional, Chicken Dance
Junior Girls Division (7-11): Fancy Shawl, Jingle Dress, Traditional
Junior Boys Division (7-11): Fancy Dance, Grass Dance, Traditional, Chicken Dance

Drum Contest: Northern & Southern categories separated. Pay-out for each is: 1st-$5000 / 2nd-$4000 / 3rd-$3000 / 4th-$2000 / 5th-$1,000 /

No Registration fees, No Admission fees

Master of Ceremonies: Hammond Motah & Wallace Coffey

Arena Directors: Marty Pinnecoose & Josh Williamson

Head Southern Drum Judge: Edmund Tate Nevaquaya

Head Northern Drum Judge: Robert Lincoln

sounds like it's going to be a good one, includes almost every dance catergory there is and 5 places too.

This powwow has some serious cash prizes! Wow BUT the host drums still remain a mystery huh? lol...

Oops my bad, The Host Drums will be selected each session, however be prepared to hear some good singing. I've been on the phone with drum groups who have indicated that they are coming and it sounds pretty good. I've talked with some drum groups who are supposed to be host elsewhere that are coming LOL. But as powwows go you don't know who will showed up until the dust clears and the winners announced.

It appears that our $30,000 in drum money has peaked some interest. But there are plenty of Skins to attend the various events happening each weekend.

By the way the latest that we have gotten out of the building was 10:00 pm for you travelers. Where ever you are powwowing at - have a good time and safe trip home.

Friday 6:00 pm

Saturday 1:00 & 7:00

ummm... this sounds like a good one... i need to make a decision whether to hit this one or NNF. Due to the gas prices i would rather stay close to home but the kids want to head out to Ute country. Other things to consider: camping and the weather... admissions prices... the traffic at NNF... wow!..
