22nd Annual Mesa Pow Wow

The Mesa Pow Wow is an inter-tribal Native American gathering that is open to all. Its main feature is a dance competition in a number of categories for men, women and children, and the event also includes approximately 100 Native American arts vendors, children's activities and authentic Indian food.

Dance categories will include, for male dancers: Fancy War Dance, Grass Dance, Southern Straight and Northern Traditional; and for female dancers: Fancy Shawl/Jingle Dress, Cloth/Buckskin Northern, and Cloth/Buckskin Southern. There will also be Junior categories for ages 8 to 16, and a special category for Tiny Tots (age 7 and under).

The 2005 Mesa Pow Wow will be held in the memory of long-time organizer and emcee Roy Track, who died April 24, 2005.

Saturday and Sunday

October 29 & 30, 2005

Pioneer Park in Mesa

526 E. Main Street

Saturday: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Sunday: 11 a.m. to dusk

Admission to the Pow Wow is FREE of charge.

The Pow Wow is sponsored by the 21st Century Native American and the City of Mesa Parks and Recreation Division.

Wow...this powwow takes me back...it's good to hear the pow wow will continue and in honour of Roy Track...here's to wishing the best to this pow wow and the committee for their loyalty and perserverance in keeping the Mesa pow wow tradition....

The last time I worked with Mr. Track was at Red Mountain Eagle last November with Tha Tribe! I can still hear him calling out "Thaaaaa Triiiibe".

Yeah that was taken at B.O.B. during Native American night.. it was a cool gig. :)

I hope I can make it to this one this year. I'll have to squeeze it between the beck concert @ the fair and mondo generator on sunday.

Remember when they had it @ the mesa southwest museum? One year, they had it @ the parking garage. I like where they have it now, across the street from arbys. mmmmmm...

Best thing to do is get there on Friday, set up your canopy and get back there super early on Saturday morning for a parking spot. Canopy real estate is in demand if you don't get there on Friday.
